for a complete job $4000CAD

That would include new water pump/clutch/machining/rebuild kit/head work/fluids/hoses etc and you do all the labour.

now thats alota cake.........didnt think it would be that much, i think ill just part it out and think of a different swap in the mean while.........thanks dude im in regina

undecided right now........ill probly sit on it till spring. itsa little too far for me too go all that way to bring her home for the winter.

$4000CDN is a shocking figure to me, and I would have to take the bus for a long time...but...if you get 400,000 kms out of your engine (I understand this is realistic for a 3B), the rebuild costs 1 penny per km...and you're good to go for another 1/2 million.

talk to Wayne, I seem to remeber him saying he has some rebuilt 3B's around his shop.

Just a thought

Ouch, the 3B in my daughters truck cost about $2200 in machine shop time plus the rebuild kit of $1100. The machine shop put the pistons, crank, cam and bearings in and I did the rest.
$6500 is robbery!

what has to be machined?

A proper rebuild requires new cylinder liners which need to be rebored, cam, and rod bearings need to be installed plus it's always a good idea to check the crank and cam for straightness and the cam for lobe height.

YOUCH!! dude you need a new shop to get your rebuilds from.

i have a rebuilt 3B sitting here with only 30,000km on it, the customer totled his truck shortly after installing the engine so i bought the truck back...
cheers

Here is the breakdown of my 3B rebuild (all in Cdn dollars). The aftermarket parts were recomended when either they weren't supplied by the kit, or the Toyota ones were superior.

Aside from the machining (pressing bearings etc) I did all the teardown and rebuild. The rebuild was done at 396,000 kms for poor compression reasons. We think it was simply poor maintenance and care that led to it.

Rebuild Kit $595.00 From Geoff Walsh Engines in Australia
-plus shipping $240.00
Machine Shop $770.00
Pre-cups $430.00
Extra Toyota Parts $945.00
Fluids $100.00
Injectors $160.00

TOTAL $3,240.00

Kit Includes:
Pistons
Piston Sleeves
Wrist Pins
Cam Bearings
Main Bearings
Piston Rings
Assembly Lube
RTV Silicone
Breath Mints (yes, you read that right)
Most gaskets and seals
Coppers for oil lines

Extra Toyota Parts
Head Gasket
Front & Rear Main Seal
Oil Pump Relief Valve and Spring
Thermostat w/ gasket
Oil Cooler Gasket
Oil Pump Gears
Clutch
Pressure Plate
Clutch Bearings
Injector Gaskets & seats

Machining includes:
Acid dip and prep all parts
Install piston sleeves
Deck the head if necessary
Re-do valves
Polish crank and cam
Install cam bearings
Install wrist pins
Magnaflux the head and block

Hope that helps,
Craig.

By the way, I am super happy with the rebuild results. I went from 18 mpg to 33 mpg (while still running the stock setup...tires etc).

Power difference was night and day, and it actually likes to start now as opposed to wearing out the starter, which I did.

Now I'm turbo-ed with 40,000 kms on the rebuild and it's great. It's a new truck.

Craig.
