Add a Saab aftercooler.

Can you share with us what year and model Saab the intercooler is from? I'm considering intercooling the BJ60.

i have oil and water lines ...should i use the water cooling? or just block it off? one of the holes the thread is stripped....i guess i could tap it bigger...

I am in favor of connecting the water lines. I have the water lines connected on all the turbos. It's not a lot more work and I have to believe that the additional cooling cannot hurt anything. The book "Maximum Boost" figures that the water cooling can extend the turbo life by a factor of 2. Granted it is based on gassers but I don't suppose that diesels are that much different.

The exhaust gas on a petrol is far hotter than your diesel can sustain. The stoichiometric air/fuel ratios they run at also keeps the exhaust gas at a far hotter temp, not allowing the exhaust to cool the turbo in low load situations like a diesel does.

Most of the water jacketed turbos are a legacy of that model turbo also being fitted to petrol engines.
If you find a turbo that is exclusively fitted to a diesel it is very rare to be water jacketed.

I don't bother with the water line, Capped off on my truck.

It means maybe that the CT-26 come from the gasser world throught the MR2 or the Supra ..

Usually it's better to get the original turbo from the car that's being upgraded.

Too big on a diesel and you lose all your low end boost and torque.

That's where my CT26 is from. Someone wanted a bigger on on their Supra so I picked up the old one.

If anyone is in the market, we pieced together literally every part other than the high pressure oil fill line to the turbo for a 3B using the Mitsubishi diesel homebrew setup. Flip the stock manifold and it bolts up. Right as we got it all together, he got a big check/payday from work and ordered a Turbo Glide kit so we still have this. Would probably sell for something like $450 or even $400 complete US -- you are interested let me know and I can dig it up and take pics... In the end, the TurboGlide kit was almost identical turbo to this regardless...

I am wondering if I can find a link to that thread from about two years ago..

Great offer.
You should mention that the power steering reservoir would be in the way of a straight flipped stock manifold from models from 1983 onwards, at least on a bj60.

my friend is going to build me a manifold/header for mine he's got the big miller welder. he thinks it will be an easy fun manifold for him to build....

a straight up flip of the early 3b manifold is not practical for mounting and that setup is too high to fit under the hood(bj60).... and a hole in the hood is only cool if it's an off road beater and you have a tractor flap exhaust stack out the hood :D

It fits just fine under the hood of a 40 series but I agree that that running the exhaust straight up would be cool.

Here's my setup stock flipped manifold and kkk14 turbo

Final result:

I'm planning to change my turbo by a bigger one, garrett T3 from volvo 740td ;)

Cheers from France :flipoff2:

And I thought that the AXT kit made putting oil in the engine a bit of a pain! It looks like you need to pull the cross over pipe just to add oil.

Does anyone have close up photos of the exhaust coming off the turbo? The CT26 form the Supra is a goofy rectagularish shape.

Sounds more like the ct26 from MR2. The Supra one I stole the exhaust elbow for Ratpuke BJ42 was 2.5" round.
