3b home brew turbo setups....pics/ideas

cleaned it all and it looks like it will still work as is for awhile....have to get my fittings in order(oil lines) and manifold fabbed then plumb the intake and make brackets for it and hook up the pyrometer....extra's will come after like boost gauges etc...

blow out of the turbo....not big but will work...

Merker Garrett on a 13 b-t manifold. Using an adapter.

Seems good. Going down the highway I get 5 or so PSI at 2000 rpm in 5th. Drop it to 4th and floor it..... and hold for a bit I go all the way up to 13-14 psi at 2600 or so rpm.

On a step hill in 4th I get about 10 psi.

EGT never seems to go above 600-800 post turbo.

Do you know what the exhaust A/R is on your one BB?
 
Think most guys tee into the heater lines that run to the fire wall just above the exhaust manifold. They kinda run along the valve cover. Not sure exactly how, I don't have the coolant lines on my Ghetto Fab T3. Can anybody confirm that a 13b-t manifold with a T3 adapter will clear the slope of a 70 series hood?

i have oil and water lines ...should i use the water cooling? or just block it off? one of the holes the thread is stripped....i guess i could tap it bigger...

You've got two choices.
If you plumb in water lines, it has to be done in a way that the water can thermosiphon through it when the engine is off. Otherwise it'll boil and create steam pockets. If the water flow is restored, then the thermal shock can crack the housing.

Or don't plumb it in. I don't block mine off completely, I leave one plug unsealed so it doesn't pressurise with the heating/cooling.

Hey Lowenbrau, are both those manifolds on a 3b, and does the equal length actually give you any extra? In the first foto (equal length) does the plumbing get in the way of the side plate I can see partially hidden behind it. Can you get at the lifters n pushrods behind the manifold. Not being critical, I recon it's great, just enquiring... :cool:

ps Do 3b and 13bt heads have the same exhaust manifold stud pattern. thnks
 
The equal length one is on a 3B that has a lot of porting/polishing done to the head including opening up the pre cups. The other one was briefly on a stock 13bt engine with the aftercooler before the rig was parted out. Its hard to say with any authority which engine made more power.

3b and 13bt manifold pattern is the same until mid 88 when the 3BII came out, then its the same as a 14B
 
How does one do thermosiphon?

Just arrange the hoses so the hot water can rise up and out the turbo, while the cold water gets drawn in.
Tilting the bearing housing slightly towards the uphill hose can help too.
