Has anyone used an Allhead cylinder head or know about their quality? I have been corresponding with Allhead and their heads are cast iron. They quoted me $690 AUD+shipping and that included combustion chambers.
IF the Geoff Walsh head is an Allhead product then that's what I have. I was always lead to believe it was an alloy NOT cast iron though.
The head on my truck, whatever it is, seems to be just fine as far as I can tell!
The 12v Alternator/vacuum pump bolts on. There is no EDIC, you will need a 12V Vacuum switching valve instead. Your PS pump will bolt on. The starter?.. seems to me they changed the aluminum casting in 10/84 to clock the starter motor away from the engine block to clear the pump linkages etc of the 13B-T. The 86-87 BJ70 starter is clocked out.. not sure about your 85. In any case, minor detail, the clocked out casting can be bought. The 24volt glow screen will glow on 12volts just slower. As far as Turbo diesel engine swaps go, the 13B-T into BJ70 is as easy as they get.
If you are looking to get back on the road for the least amount of cash, the loaded high nickel head is the way to go. If you want to get out of the slow lane the 13B-T is the ticket.
Is there anyway to tell what head you have whether its a high nickel content head or not? I have an 81 BJ42, with 3B of course Aussie delivered. Actual km's are unknown, it has 345k on the clock but when I bought it from a mate it had stopped ticking over. He said it was working when he bought it but stopped while he owned it. I would guess it has over 500k on the original engine and still going strong!
Call Cruiserdan, i beleive a new head from Toyota is about $700.00 or 750.00 It doesn't have pre-cups. I ordered pre-cups from Geoff Walsh in AUS and total was $136.00 including shipping.
Guys.. all good info but look at the date. A year ago Dec.
I got a mine head from Greg Riemer (thanks) and installed it and have been driving it for over a year, and running good. I was out of work at the time or I would have went with a 3bt. The best option at the time was to replace the head.
Pv resurected this thread commenting about the increased cost of an allhead.
Alex,Where do you think those valves I sent you came from
I have a used head from a B engine, that should work for your 3B engine. I have recently refurbished the head and ran it on my B engine only to have the bottom end of the engine die on me due to a fresh new head! I'm in Vancouver, BC and asking 500$CND. If interested, I can even ship to you. E-mail me directly at sean.allan@powertechlabs.com and I can hopefully save you a bit of $$$.
