Hi,

I have a 76 40 that was converted to a 3b diesel by the PO. I believe the alternator has given up. Can anyone provide me with a part # for the alternator? The 3b is a 1985.

I believe the part number for the alternator with the vacuum pump is $$$-$€£¥... Was cheaper for me to buy a parts truck!

Have you tested the regulator and/or checked the brushes? They are simple and comparatively cheap to replace.

If you are having them tear it apart, have them replace ALL the diodes, not just the ones found to be defective. The cost of the diodes is minimal compared to the tear down and re-build cost. When mine died the first time, they only replaced half the diodes because only half the diodes were in need of replacement. 11 months later, the other half needed replacement and I had to go through the whole process again.
