Rebuilt, you dont have much chance unless you want a brand new one from toyota. Those alternateur have a vaccum pump, so aftermarket alternatives are rare...i never found one. Search you might find other options that people have done.

but imo rebuilt it.

Look through the stickies, you'll find a p/n for either a 3b or 13bt alt. if you are in the US, cross reference that p/n @ napaonline with "interchange" selected and it will bring up an alt that will fit your engine. You may have to swap cases, but it will all fit.

.

Plenty in australia but they cost around $3-400 + $180 express postage.

With the hit and miss alternator rebuilds that go on for months on this forum ,I would just fork out the cash and go new.

Is this 12v or 24v?

12V is probably easier to find. But i recall when i decided to have mine rebuilt i went with a rebuilt as i couldn't find a 24V with vaccum pump that would replace mine.

The aussie dealers on ebay stock the 24v at the same price as the 12v.
For some reason they never advertise them but one told me they come from the same distributor and are just as easy to get as are the 2H 24V alternator.
I think a lot of the Dyna/Daihatsu trucks and Coasters are 24v ,so they are not uncommon here.
I believe there is also an 80 amp 24v alternator with vac pump available.

Hey now! Mine might be done tomorrow.

I should point out that my issue was caused by an incompetent rebuilder who physically ground my rotor and then made a bunch of other unnecessary mods, rendering the whole thing broken.

That said, if the 3B alternator doesn't appear in any shop manuals (like my 2H alternator) and the shops can't even find parts for it, then proceed with caution.

I wouldn't touch the alternator any more than you have to.

Are you in the states?

If you do have to muck with it, and you can't find a 12v unit, you might talk to Tor @ Torfab in Seattle. He takes 24v Canadian 2H alternators and has them modified for 12v use by a guy in DC. He might have some ideas for you if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of needing to get creative.

call me at the shop
I have new 12v's on the shelf
what year?

Rebuild!Just got mine back from Gen Star ,Glendale,AZ. My ride is an AUS 1980 HJ45 alt has vac pump. Genstar replaced brushes & bearing & now working great. They not have problems getting parts they need, said ND generally uses same brushes many years back.

What is the difference between the alternators of a early production to the change at 4/1982?

Internal VS external voltage regulator.

Canadian BJ42 have external voltage regulator.

Do you stock a 24volt alternator for a 1982 BJ42 Land Cruiser production date 11/1981 originating out of Canada? Thanks for any help! Montie

Rebuilt it... period ! Much less expensive.

Thanks David. I'll try the guy at Gen Star in AZ for parts. I'm new to the Land Cruiser and Forum. I appreciate any help you guys can provide.
