well some of you may remember that i'm gathering ideas for a mini-pickup i'm planning on buying. the truck is an 83, some body dmg, interior is shot, but drivetrain is solid. basically the best part is i can pick it up cheap. the stroker is coming out of some old GMC 3/4 ton one of my mechanics is selling. he tells me he will give it to me with EVERYTHING attached except the ignition (mallory he won't part with) for $800. this means pulleys, headers, pumps, carb, hoses, and everything else attached.
the point of this buildup is going to be for a kick-ass trail machine. i am already planning around a SBC, 465, 205, 14B-D60 (hopefully shortened) and maybe 37-39 inch swampers.
anyway, i'm excited about the stroker, but are there things i should be leary of? i mean, are there certain blocks, heads, or other things i should avoid? i don't have access to this info yet.... i don't even know what year the motor is. also, would i need to have it dyno'd to see if it really is a stroker? what about compression ratio? the owner tells me he has to run premium in it, but i would want to lower the compression a hair so i could just run cheap gas. what kind of power loss would i experience with a lower compression?
