Just wondering if anyone has fitted 38.5/16/15 tyres on their 40.
I'm currently running 35/12.5/15 Baja Claws on 15x8 rims with no/minimal rub, in process of selling them (only used 5 times, anyone interested?). I have a SOA and am in process if having 60 power steering fitted, and have front disc brakes as well. Anyone run tyres this big, I've got 15x10 rims for the new tyres, will probably have to trim rear guards, drivetrain is stock, anything likely to break??

Anyone??

Your Birfields will hate you..

I have 38.5x15.5x15 Swampers TSL/SX on my 68 FJ40. About a 4" spring lift, still under axle, and a 3" body lift. Ran them in Tellico this past month and no problems. Have LockRite in rear and ARB up front. Used the ARB a few times on lower 2 and other spots, did not have any probems with rubs or Birfields.

Quick edit...I have 15X10 rims and running disk brakes all around and a Saginaw stearing with the 4X4 crossover.

have ran both 38.5 x 14.5 ,and 38.5 x 16 the tsl/sx tires recommend a minimum of 15 x 12 inch rim , you can see in the pic they are kinda rounded i have to run them at like 10-12 psi all the time for even tread wear

I'm picking up the rims tomorrow, not sure of backspacing, but will check it out, can get the centres cut and redone for $70 per wheel if I need to, I was more concerned with rear guards, and Birfields/drivetrain etc. Will the standard 4.11 gearing still be okay with such a large tyre??
Problem I've got is that when I get it back from the shop in a few weeks(Full Metaltech Cage I imported from the USA - only one in OZ getting fitted, power steering, front disc brake, and a few little other tidy ups here and there), I've only got about 2 days before we go away for a long weekend, so I don't want to fit these things unless I know I'll be sweet fot the weekend.

Thanks for the comments, looks like 2.5" is the go. I have bitten the bullet and sold the 35's for $1000 with rims today. So I have to get the 38.5's now.
Thanks for your help
