Going to 37s, not on the 80, though, but thought I'll ask anyway...

MTR Kevlars or Toyo M/Ts?

'Wheeling is mostly dry terrain, rocks, decomposed granite ball bearings, or the same terrain made wet by rain. No deliberate muddling if I can't help it. A fair amount of highway miles as I'm driving to the trails.

I've had the MTRs in 315/75r16 for 10 years, first the regular ones, and then the next generation Kevlars.
I always liked the grip, particularly so on the Kevlars. But they also wear much faster than the first generation GY MTR, and they seem to flat-spot while the truck is in storage between trips.

MTR Kevlars are somewhat popular around AZ; haven't seen / don't know anyone who runs Toyos.

Wouldn't mind a little more longevity, but of course, I don't want to give up grip...

Anyways, tires will go on my 6000lbs K5, so similar weight than an 80, but WITH the leaf-spring boogie... thanks for any input

The only difference I see spec wise is the MTR is a D rated tire. The Toyo MT is an E rated tire. 20 lbs weight difference between
each tire. The Toyo should last longer, its really heavy duty. I run the 285/75R17 on my 60. I researched them as indestructible
on the blast rock granite mtn roads up here. I've got 30,000 kms on them, lots of tread/life left. But heavy means more rolling resistance,
so that is a consideration. Good luck, tough call.

Have an old set of MTR and Toyos .. ( 60 and 80 respectively ) Toyos are like rock .. ( wear and comfort ) while MTR ( first model ) are more soft compound and more prone to wear / loose chunks ..

I've run both of those in 33 and 35" models. The Toyo MTs in my opinion are very good grip but not the best at clearing sand out. I had shale puncture tread on the Toyo 4 times on 2 seperate tires but such is the risk of sharp rocks. They're nice and quiet on road driving but so are the MTRs. I got 30,000km on the Toyo before selling and they were down to 30% tread.

The MTRs I had better luck with, no punctures with same amount of grip. Put 25,000km on before selling and they were roughly 60% left and that was a C rated MTR on a long wheel base Suburban. I really don't like the ride quality of an E rated tire for anything smaller than a one ton truck.

Both of them are good tires. Price point and heavy load rating will continue to keep me away from going back to Toyo
