So I have a mint running 2F, and a hooped 350. The 2F is in the truck right now.

I got a sm420.

Should I keep the 2F or build up the small block? What are the PRO's and Con's you experienced guys have found?

Mint running 2F? Question answered!

I'm a chevy man with a small block in my rig and I love everything about it .... but pull out a strong 2F? Never.

It depends on what you want to do with your rig. I'd sorta like the extra ponys you get with a 350, but I like not overheating on the trail too. Not to say that all V8 swaps have that problem, but some do. If your 2F is solid keep it. If it's solid and you still do a V8 swap, send me the 2F, I'm short one right now. :D

2 f 2f 2f

they came with a 2f, mines done 700 000kilometers (don't know hwat that is in miles). it still starts every morning, still can cruiser between capital cities in australia, and still can chirp 33 x12.5's in second when i'm angry...

my 350 experiences.
one friend had one in a 40, rebuilt/replaced it no fewer than 10 times, then cracked the chassis from the torque, then put it into a tree.
another in a 75 series, every time we have been wheeling with him, we are always fixing/ tow starting him.
one in a family car that came from the factory in aust (we use crate 350's from the states here in holden cars) went back 5 times under warranty for burning oil, leaking oil, then finally crakced the block. the new one in there isn't running much better

if your building a drag car or something, go for the 350, but there has to be a reason toyota is still running a descendant of that motor in the outback of australia

A 350 swap can be a nice engine. I swapped one into my other 55 and drove it up and down the Alcan to Alaska. Not too many problems.

That said I hate them. I got the engine out of my rolled 40 and put it in my 55. I never knew what year it was and that was a big problem. Finding parts for it was a pain. Sure, the auto parts places had them, but trying to find what exact model it fit drove me nuts. Also, it was a mildly built engine, nothing too special, but a Chevy engine was the only engine to go bad on me- something in the bottom end let go. I replaced it with another 350 from a engine rebuilder that had a RV cam in it. The replacement never had enough torque (the original didn't either) to get anywhere. It doesn't, IMHO make enough useable torque to retain the factory H42. A granny tranny will solve a lot of these problems, but it was a real annoyance trying to drive my 7000lb Cruiser down the Lockhart basin trail to Canyonlands with only a 33:1 crawl ratio. A 2F or even a fresh F would have made me much happier.

If you do go 350, make sure it's FI.

I'm going to be building a 2F within the next ten years or so  . I love the useable torque. If I was in your position, I would be lookin for a Bitch'n Camero to make use of the 350.

I have trucks with both right now .98vortec awesome power too much i think sometimes. It does overheat a little on the trail but all in all it was a good mod . I love my 2f's too though they are very reliable and the torque is excellent for stock gearing.I would fuel inject it though! My vote is stay with the 2f if it is running strong .change the oil on a regular basis and it will run forever!

Corvettes wheel like crap, adding a cruiser is the best upgrade you can do.2F's are great but log trucks go buy you on 2 lane at warp 10.A 1968 RS/SS -2F- camaro.I bet it wheels great ,if its on redlines. Did i say that outloud.

Keep the 2F if it runs good. They are fun engines to work on. Can go fast enough on the highway for me. Buy a beater rig and throw the 350 in it.

I run a 350 fuel injected motor and have never had any reliability or overheating issues. Install a large aluminum radiator with a shroud and you' be fine.

As if THIS has not ever been covered....

Thanks guys, I like my 2F, I got the 350 cheap and have all the parts to run it. But when I tore into the 350 to check it out, I found alot of scoring in the rear to cylinders. I think I am going to keep the 2F, especially after you guys pumped me up :)

Does anybody know what the torque ratings are on a stock 2f?

By all means keep the 2 F I am just completing a customer's conversion, 350 back to the 2F, in all fairness it was a poorly done conversion.but after spending a few hours with him, we both decided what he wanted from the truck was the original performance it had when he rolled it off the lot new in '77, so that's what he got....in addition to an Orion, dual ARB's, electronic ignition.....he will be so happy with this truck.......
I have both and am happy with either.

2F vs V8.. that is the question. Ditto to Poser. I personally could not be happy with a 150 HP I6 but that's why they make chocolate and vanilla. Let's break some par  ts!
