Ive always been kind of a purest as cruisers go..but my most receint purchase was a 75 40 series with a SBC 350 .... got to say Im impressed with the power to weight ratio.... The 350 that was in it has problems and needs to be swapped out... now the questions...not a Chevy guy and never done or seen a sbc done, so know nothing of this..

Its a SBC 350 mated to a Cruiser 4spd

#1) Would the clutch and pressure plate be yota or chevy?
#2 Flywheel yota or Chevy?

Thats what I was thinking...but not having done this....???

From bikersmurf (back when I had the same question as you): 168 tooth flywheel, 11" low cone diaphragm type clutch from early 70s Chev (LUK in my case), 2F throw out being and fork, and AA or Stock Chev type mounts.

I have a chevy flywheel and LUK clutch. Toyota throw out bearing and fork. Hope this helps.

The flywheel and pressure plate are chevy and the disc is toyota(due to the spline of the transmission shaft), and the throw out bearing is toyota as well. I bought my clutch kit from advance adapters 19 years ago, its a Centerforce clutch kit, specifically for this swap. Not sure if AA still sells it or not, though would have to think they would.

it also depends on the adapter used is the bell housing aluminum or is it a Chevy bell housing with a spacer plate bolted to it .

if steel Chevy bellhousing you use a Chevy clutch ,pressure plate and disc with a Chevy shift for and Chevy TO bearing

if it is a downey or AA aluminum adapter bellhousing then you will use a Chevy pressure plate ,disc and a Toyota shift fork and Toyota TO bearing .
the Chevy clutch disc fits the Toyota splines on a 4spd.

or u can buy the special center-force clutch kit from Jim downey or AA they both still sell the proper clutch

for me i use a Chevy low profile pressure plate also ,not the special centerforce one

.

No matter who's conversion parts were used, the disc is a Chevy, 10 spline on the 3 speed which I have first hand knowledge of. If the 4 speed trans is 10 spline then it uses the same disc. Buy a clutch for the type of driving you're going to be doing. If you need a lot of grab then the diaphragm may not be good for you. I've been running a Borg & Beck pressure plate from McLeod sprung at 2800 lb. and it has plenty of grab. Unless the engine is turning high RPM then pressure plates with weights are useless as they only provide maximum grip at higher RPM and not at low. Normal street driving the diaphragm clutches work fine.

pbgbottle is spot on as far as the shift forks and bearings are concerned. Although Downey is out of business, I still sell the special Downey Chevota clutches, you can PM me for more info (don't want this to sound like a gosh darn ad).
