Hey all. Ive got a 86 bj60. Last year i did a spring over conversion on her and was running 33 inch tires. I just upgraged to 35 x 12.5 inch mudders. i love the truck and she feels great now.. but it seems to have lost alot of power with the bigger tires. Im looking to get new gears and was just wondering what everyone thought would be the best gears to get for this, this truck is mostly going to be driven on hilly highways. looking to get abit better fuel milage to..will new gears help with this? Thanks all!

Stock were 3.73 right? I'd go to 4.56 for highway travel. If you liked the ride on 33's with the stock gears, one step up would be 4.11's (that'd put it back to where it was with the 33's), it'll perform better with the 4.56's, though.

hey awsome..ive just been doing some reading on other threads and it sounds like 4.56 is the way to go for 35,s, that would be bring it back to around stock driving right?will it increase fuel efficancy at all or? now the next step is getting the gears and getting them installed. Can i just buy the gears at like a lordco say and get them put in at any shop? Havent had much to do with gearing before...

I plan on going 4.88 this summer and stepping up to 36s sometime after. That setup is pretty close to stock.

Spend some time with this gearing calculator. Think about the typical speed you want to drive at, the gear you will be in, etc. My guess is that you'll be happiest with 4.56 gears, but do the calc in 3rd, 4th and 5th, considering your roads/speeds, and see what you think makes sense.

for 35's 4.56's
4.88 will be lower than stock ratio which is good but not on the freeway.

I put 4.56 on my 60 with 35's and it works out pretty nice. Of course the 60 is stock with the 4 speed. With my GPS in the truck i am actually going a bit slower than what the speedo says.

Well im gona go with the 4.56 gears..seems the best bet for what i need out of my truck. Wheres the best place to order them from? can anyone give me some pricing on the set of gears and approx how much it will be to get them installed? I kind of want to do this asap, could i pick them up at a lordco or anywhere?thanks for all the advice..cheers

yah i need a turbo bad.. hows yours working out?ill bring my truck to cambell river and pay $$$ to get you to set me up with one
