I've been running 285/70/17 KO2s since I got my GX and I've always liked them but wanted a tad bit taller and a tad bit thinner and a tad lighter option. I go with load range E because the C seems too thin.

I considered the 255/80/17 but there was barely any options.

I just stumbled across the 34/10.5/17 by BFG. It comes in a load range D, which is new to me too. I've always seen C and E.

It seems like the 34x10.5 might be the exact tire I've been looking for. It's 1.3" taller, about and inch narrower and is a D load rating. Has anyone ran them or have any experience with them?

I have had them on my Tacoma for 2+ years. I like em for the profile and weight, but you will find that they are severly undersized for what you pay for. Over $300 a tire that barely measure 33.25" on an 8.5" wide wheel. Unless the price has changed I would stick with the 255/80/17 (Cooper ST Maxx, Nitto Ridge Grappler, Falken AT3W, and maybe a few others). If the BFGs were $250 each I would consider them again.

@Vlad just got 35x10.5R17 Kenda Klever rt601. He also used to run KO2 34x10.50 then Ridge Grappler 35x12.50.
It looks really good and his review are really good.

Less than $190 each shipped from carid.

Kendas are the answer. They are awesome! 35x10.50R17 5 for $988 delivered

That's a hell of a deal!

35" is way too much for me on stock gears.
I have a 4.10 elocker sitting in my garage waiting for me to find the elusive 8" 4.10 front. Those will likely get me by with a tire that isn't quite a true 34". 35's are probably too much tire for my future gears pland though.

If i could find a 4.30 set up I'd be ok with 35's. Definitely if I had 4.56's.

KO2 are much heavier. It would be no different between KO2 34x10.50 vs Kenda 35x10.50

I cannot stand running 33 with stock gear. I am very happy with 4.30 and 33 at this point.

I had the 34x10.50R17 KO2 and didn't like them. Not very round. Moved to a 35x12.50R17 Ridge Grappler and loved them. Ran two sets. The Kenda Klever RT came out in 35x10.50R17 and I went for it. I love them so far. Very round and crazy quiet. I have 4.56s.

Im also interested in this tire size and curious to how well stock gears handle them.

I have a set of the Kenda 35x10.5x17s arriving tomorrow. I picked up 4 for $720 shipped with tax. The price is right. I hope the tire works.

You will love them

Do you have to do a BMC or get any rubbing with either the KO2 34x10.5 or the Kenda 35x10.5?

Thanks.

You'll definitely need a BMC with a 35"

I guess I'm more interested in the KO2 34x10.5 then. I've read that they run small. I'm hoping to get away with no BMC with a 2.5-3" lift and UCAs, but would like confirmation before pulling the trigger. I've done a bunch of searching on this forum and others, but seem to only find conflicting information.

I had a 2.5" lift and UCA's and needed a BMC when i ran 285's. I imagine you're going to need a BMC with either of those sizes.

ANY TIRE 33" plus you will be BMC, aggressive caster adjustment forward (UCAs) and reinforcing or looking to make your front end tougher. Not to mention gearing on 34+. Your mpgs will take a serious dive without a 4.56 ratio.

Amen on the MPG statement!

I installed 4.10's to run my 285's and decided to jump to 35's down the road.

Albeit I carry around fridge, drawers, bumper, winch, sliders, roof rack and sometimes a rtt but I'm getting 12.2 mpg with 35's and 4.10's.

I have fresh plugs, a clean MAF, brand new OEM o2 sensors and a clean air filter and I'm still getting terrible mpg.

I'm getting ready to do 4.56 and Doug Thorley headers to try to win back some mpg.

I know guys tend to focus on clearance but dont discount fuel economy when getting into the 34" and up world of tires.

I get it that most guys aren't getting V8 suvs for their economy but to me, it's more miles traveled for what I can carry if I get better fuel economy.

Probably an unpopular response here...
About those MPGs...
If you are getting 12mpg and you do headers and 4.56 gears, which I imagine will run at least $2k and lets just say it makes a HUGE difference and you now get 15mpg. at 12,500 miles per year and a fuel price of $3/gallon. you pay back that initial investment in fuel savings at $50/month. It will take 40 months to break even.

Of course gas could go up which would shorten that ROI, but then would even 15mpg be acceptable at that point? Also, 15mpg is probably not a realistic expectation of an increase either.

But 4.56s and headers and 35s sound like a blast!

Since the 285/70/17 KO2 was mentioned that is what I am running. I did not do a BMC and have no issues with rub there. With both stock and 4Runner wheels. OME 2.5, SPC UCA.

I also run 4.56 and do get 15 mpg hwy here in CO if I drive reasonable.
