I have a 200 mile camping trip planned this weekend, trailer in tow. Not off-road but I am going to take some speed bumps at "poor judgment" speeds tonight and tune the adjustments. Hopefully that will settle it enough that I can get it properly aligned on Tuesday. Right now the steering apparently feels very light/loose, I assume due to negative camber and low caster from the lift.

All is well, except my brakes seem a lot softer now, even when parked when I first start the truck. My mechanic buddy's helper tore a CV boot, so we ended up having to pull them and replace the boots. I'm wondering since we pulled the caliper off the disc if somehow that changed the pad clearance? Anyone else experience this? My mechanic thinks it's related to brake proportioning, but I find that hard to believe since I've never experienced this when parked pointed slightly uphill, so I don't see how a 2" lift would cause this. Anyone else experience a change in brake softness/travel distance when lifting (in particular not just when driving but when parked too)? Any ideas?

FWIW I'm tempted to bleed the brakes, but before I get into it I'm hoping someone can confirm/deny my suspicion. I don't see any evidence of leaks in the brake lines, and the master is slightly above the full line. Not sure the brake fluid has ever been flushed though, and since it's going on 4 years maybe it's time

One possibility, since they dismantled the brake system, is that the pad is no longer "mated" to the disk any longer. Akin to getting new brake pads. So the surfaces will need some miles to make all the ridges and troughs line up again.

Though they only did one corner? So it would be weird that it's that dramatic. Have you driven much since the tire upgrade? I think you know of the brake torque loss with larger tires.

Yeah I've driven a few hundred miles since the new tires and it's not braking force. I feel much more pedal travel even when I'm Park. Pedal feels a bit softer too.

They did both outer CV boots, so both calipers were removed and reinstalled.

My hunch is there is some air in the line that maybe was trapped in a bend in the line, but moving the calipers around caused it to migrate to somewhere else in the system. I'm going to try and bleed the brakes this weekend and see if it goes away. The Toyota procedure seems easy to do to bleed the lines, but sounds like it requires a special tool to bleed the air out of the master cylinder or abs :-(

9 pages of questions leading up to a decision and you post one crappy pic of the rear tire? - produce some pics or get of the pot
I want to see what this thing looks like - ha

They're coming today. I didn't get home until late so the pics would've been dark, and I left before dawn this morning.

It's tall and loads of clearance but you guys still have me beat :-)

Pics. It's a little light in the front with 600# on the hitch. Left side is about 1/2 to 3/4" higher. Hoping it'll settle...

Nice job and thanks for the pic. Safe travels

Right side has settled since the start of my trip. Left side is still about 3/4" taller in the rear. I tried to adjust the KDSS but it still ends up off once I put it back on the ground.

Remember taller spring is passenger side for US rigs.

Swap your rear springs...

I put the taller spring on the driver's side, per @reevesci. TD confirmed taller spring is supposed to go on the DS. FWIW I had about 1/2" of lean before with the DS side taller, so 3/4" of lean isn't entirely a shock to me.

Trim packers are perfect to address these leans.

Just reminiscing but the 100-series was nice as you could just crank the torsion bars a bit on the low side. Though more aggressive balancing still needed trim packers on the corresponding rear corner.

G,

Email response:

"Hi Jason,

At the end of everything, sometimes there are vehicles that lean the wrong way. I have had a handful of cases with the 200 here in AUS where we have needed to fit the coils around the other way to get the vehicles to sit level. Try them the other way round and let me know how you go.

I would not discount the KDSS system as being an issue here though. Althought eh client says it has been done correctly, and we have no reason to doubt it, a step may have inadvertently been missed.

Leaning 200 series in our experience domestically is almost always related to the KDSS system playing funny games.

I have also seen on a limited number of occasions 200 series that consistently get parked on a side slope start to take that slope into consideration.

I’m not saying that is a factor here, merely anecdotally pointing out the KDSS is an interesting and sometimes temperamental beast to try and deal with.

Regards

David"

Thanks. As I mentioned my truck did lean about 1/2" to the right (measured in the rear) before the lift. So 3/4" right now isn't a total surprise. Actually what did surprise me is that the taller factory spring was on the right side!

I've tried to level the KDSS system but whenever I set the vehicle down it seems to return to the original level. I may try to "over" jack the left side by a couple inches as Willy Beamin' did in the hopes that it will partially adjust but not completely.

My driveway is not 100% level either - the brick pavers have settled a bit over time where the truck is parked and the truck did look level when parked in my driveway, so I wonder if it's automatically "leveling" itself over time since it spends 80% of its life parked there. Interesting that TD says they've seen that before. Maybe its time for me to pull some bricks, re-sand, and re-pack it.
