33X10.50 vs 33X12.50

12.50's I love the way the truck rides on them. Remember the wider the tire th more surface area that touches the ground I would never go any smaller!

Wider is better in sand, bottomless mud, and cushy ride. Narrow helps in the rocks when aired down, in mud with a solid bottom, and snow/ice (if siped).

Are you guyz running any kind of lift with the 33's? Im needing new rims and tires and I was thinking about moving up to 33's, but I wasnt sure about the clearance.
Right now, I have 32x11.5's BFG AT's and they do awsome wtih NO rubbing anywhere, but they look a bit close to the front springs and Im concerned about turning radius.
I have a 2.5 in shackel and some beefed up springs on mine.

I run BFG AT 33x12.5's on my FJ60 and I like them, but after I bought them I discovered that they have a lower pressure and load rating than their 33x10.5's. I don't know if this matters in the end.

What about the braking difference on road? I would assume the contact patch being greater with the 12.5's would give you a bigger patch of rubber to help braking out.

Also the 12.5's would give you more rubber protection for your wheels. Granted not all of the wheels you guys use are something that you worry too much about, as in the case of the $50 wheel (which is what I probably will get), but it's nice to keep those protected too.

So far i ran a set of 32 inch 11.50 bfgs on my 62 i liked them but they wernt big enuf and looked kinda funny to me on the cruiser. So i picked up a set of 34 10.50 swampers and managed no rubbing with a few smacks of the hammer to insdie front fender lip heres a pic of befor and after

32 11/50

now sitting on the 34s

My vehicle is stock with exception of bigger tires. No lift shackles helper springs of anykind that i no of cuz i havent changed nothing.

I feal as tho the 32s were great on the highway bein 11 and a half wide. But my 34s seem just as good. Of course i havent been in rain or snow with the 34s yet.

That's a cool link - lots of good info in there. Thanks! I think I'm leaning towards 10.50's...dogboy and pimp both run 'em...both NW boys too...hmmm...

I'm NW too and i have a set of 32x9.50s waiting for me in Lynnwood, to be mounted next week. Going to Reiter and i need to keep up with my friends SAS'd 4runner

Hey wickedmidas,
Looks in that pic like youre rubbing BIG TIME in the rear with those 34s on.
How about turning? are you hitting the front leafs?

Chicago

When I ran BFG 33x10.5x15 All terrains I thought they had too much side wall flex. It made the truck feel un stable to me. I now run BFG 33x12.5x15 All terrains and I am very happy with the ride.

The rear tire actualy clears the intire fender well inside and out when stuff to the bump stop. Front tire doesnt even come close to the springs unless u consider a inch to go at full stuff on the bumpstops close. The inner lip on front fender where it rolls down and forward is where i had the only rub issue
Heres a close up not floexed of the rear

and in this pic its the front fender . the lowest point of the feders inner fender linein had to be smacked a couple times and waaa laa no rubbin . No lift . just bolt them on and wheel the balls out of it

only reason i think it dont rub is i have the magical backspaceing needed to clear the 34s. Also remember they are 10.50s not 12.50s.

12.5 all the way

You aren't going to notice enough difference in MPG to matter...wider is better, maybe not always, but definitely as a rule of thumb. And you won't be 2" wider, only 1" wider due to the other 1" of tire will be on the inside of your cruiser.
I ran 33X12.50 swampers with no lift, no prob. Can be done fine if your springs aren't looking like frowns yet.
12.5 will add more sound though, and i know some people are uptight about loud tires (i love the sound personally). consider that, of course if an all terrain, won't matter then as much.

here's a pic of my fj62 on 33X12.50s back when, w/o lift.
Sorry for the poor quality...that's my wife back when driving it through a swamp in Polk County. The rear rubbed once due to having 13 people in the cabin!

Hey wickedmidas...
My mistake...It must have been the angle. The pic was straight on, and it looked like it was makin love to the front of the inner fender well.

I went with the 33x10.50's. It came with the 33x12.50 MTR's but I didn't need a tire that aggressive. I like them fine, but I wish I would have gone with the BFG AT in 12.50 wide
Here is a pic of my rig:

i want your truck but with my tires
Nice rig

I actually had a set of those same 34's on balck steelies (sold them here) but I really liked the look and off road performsnce of the BFG AT's. An extra inch may have helped height, but I drive my 62 daily....

besides bein your daily driver how did u like the swampers?

I never ran them. They were new when I sold them...

why do a thing like that sell brand new never used swampers befor noing if you like or dislike them ?
