31"s to 33"s regear?

I regeared my 60 to 4.56 when I went with 235/85/16 tires (about 32 inches OA). I have the H55 tranny. In retrospect 4.11s probably would have been sufficient.
However, a lot depends on your driving. There are many steep mountain grades here so the 4.56 does come in handy. If I lived in flatter country 4.11 would be my choice

our 62 with 33;s(and stock gears) flat our hauls butt, it will get up to 80mph without issue, has 250,000 on it.
Mine has no problem exceeding 80 mph with 4.11's and 33's either (with 390k). I wouldn't say it "hauls butt" but @jhanger if yours had trouble doing 60 I would wonder what else was up.

I would concur that deeper gears would be benificial with the auto but I don't feel compelled to regear, seeing as how anything deeper than 4.11 would be too much of a good thing for 33's with an H55 or vortec/4l60 swap. I'm betting my clunking splines will end up being the determining factor on when mine gets some drivetrain parts replaced, and another A440 isn't going back in so I will keep my 4.11's.

I did not want a manual transmission. 4.56 would probably suffice. I like the fact that I'm no longer constantly going in and out of overdrive (thanks Rodney). I could do 60-65 on a flat road, now I can go 70 uphill. Of course, I have also rebuilt almost everything.

K, fellas. What about the 12ht diesel guys?
I got a fj60, 12ht, and h55f with 33s.
Little bit gutless in fourth and fifth gear. Still will cruise to 80mph on flat hwy in 5th, but it suffersnon steep hills. The most extreme hills i switch to forth, keep it at 2000rpm amd stay 50-55mph. If i hit really short steep hills without a runon start, i have to feather the throttle to get boost up to pull the rig up hills.
Really think i ahould swap in 4.11s.
Thoughts all?
