300 series revealed?

"a ground-up next-generation version different enough to qualify as a 300 Series may remain some way off" and “Another challenge is these regulations can be different from region to region so we have to maintain a complete overview of what each region is going to do and we have to coordinate how to fit the best in the whole picture.”

Both statements echo what Dave from Toyota said this summer. The current LC may remain unchanged longer than previous generations, and it's my interpretation from what was said that the drivetrain is the big challenge and unknown going forward for a world vehicle.

Toyota FT-AC off-road concept debuts at 2017 LA Auto Show

If the core design was actually innovative, they probably wouldn't feel the need for all the plastic, stick-on external doodads and weird colors.

^^^ Wow what a crappy Photoshop. No tire tracks in the sand? Did they drop that thing in from a helicopter?

good catch....not that it was too difficult. I still believe that Toyota will continue the Cruiser in the US and I pray that it won't look anything like this!

I like the front end on this thing better than anything they offer now, and way better than Lexus. But a “more military looking” 300 series compared to the 200 would probably be well received around here.

Yeah, and I just watched a video with the project lead on the new Wrangler at the LA show. Designed specifically so you can bolt on 35s. Diesel on the way. What a different philosophy.

And Chat in 3...2...1...

From the link above...

"With the FJ Cruiser gone, the 4Runner and Land Cruiser are Toyota's two remaining off-road-oriented SUVs. They are both body-on-frame vehicles, but the automaker lacks an off-road-focused offering with a car-like unibody structure."

That's like saying, but Ferrari lacks a BoF off-road-focused super car.

The Land Cruiser in the US market is not a player. Toyota only keeps it in the US for name recognition. They would rather sell 10 Camry’s and move the volume. Making cars is not a passion, it is about making money.

Toyota may never bring a new 300 series to the US because there is to many regulations attached to the market.

I hope we get a 300 series but I want a big V8 not a redone Hybrid, my fear is that they will kill the design trying to conform to snowflakes, remember the mustang II?

On a side note, thumbs up to Nissan for bringing us the Patrol... I have a 2017 Titan and love it, when I was there I sat in a Patrol and would not trade the 200 for one but would dump my wife’s 2015 4Runner for it.

I believe it is all about CAFE standards and the fact that, selling a lot of LC's would lower their number below the federally-mandated goal.

I wish that’d go away and we could go back to a more free market system.

A higher gas tax would be far more effective than CAFE, but it’s not going to happen.

Yellowstone is going to erupt soon and coat most of the US in three feet of soot anyway. Bring on the diesel 79 series in the mean time.

That may be reality. I heard recently on the news that a NASA scientist is proposing a plan to super cool the lava and use the heat pressure to generate huge amounts of energy by drilling into or near the lava tube. What could possibly go wrong. :zilla::worms:
