My wife has a 2015 4Runner (Prado), we are waiting until February of next year to evaluate replacing it. They are supposedly coming out with a whole new platform 3.5 V6 from a Tacoma, better fuel economy, and the reason we are looking (blind spot monitors, radar cruise control, lane assist). Will still be a body on frame construction. The model year refresh does not happen until early next year for this...

This is all per the local dealer......

I have a 17 Taco Pro

The 3.5L is garbage as a Truck motor

The 4.0L was much better

Hopefully a turbo V6 would eventually come

we need to fill this guys inbox:

and flood their surveys.

With the amounts of funds they are pouring into NA plants, they should be able to get us something.

Agreed, the new Taco engine and transmission are a NO GO.... I had a Double cab, long bed, TRD Off Road 4x4, JBL w/ Nav Orange with Orange trim interior on order... I was reading Taco World everyday and clearly this new Taco has a lot of bugs to work out... So bad consumer reports puts it on the naughty list... I'm gonna wait a year or two for Mike Sweers and the Texas engineering crew to dial the new Taco into a unit deserving of the Toyoda Tacoma name... For $41,000 Toyoda ought to have the bugs worked out on an over priced Hilux....

Be what? No way Toyota unveils a new LC series in the US. History is clear it will be the Tokyo show. If Toyota veered from that for some reason, it’d probably be in AUS.

A RAV4 replacement? Sure.

Shucks, I was hoping for a new 4runner at least

Actually, the original concept introduction that became the FJ Cruiser...was first revealed at the North American International Auto Show in... Detroit, Michigan, United States. So.... When & if they introduce an FJ-related replacement? There is precedent for a US reveal.

I don’t really consider the FJ Cruiser a Land Cruiser. It was never a global market vehicle. It was a NA vehicle. It makes sense to reveal vehicles in their planned market. So I’d expect FJC, 4RNR, RAV4, etc to be revealed in the US. I wouldn’t expect, for instance, a Prado reveal in the US.

Edit: not true on the FJC. It is global.

Thanks! Edited my above post. I’m still holding to my stance the 300 reveal will be in Tokyo. FJC/RAV4 are both global but see no reason an update reveal couldn’t be in the US since it is an important market for those.

Neither do I consider it a Land Cruiser (even though they have a Land Cruiser Prado down under that's more of a 4-Runner/Lexus)...but some were discussing the FJ.

I agree that the replacement for the 200 will probably be introduced in one of it's big markets if not Japan... Practically no one owns them in the US!

IMO, the 4Runner is overdue for replacement. The drivetrain in particular desperately needs to be updated. Heck, an F-150 gets better fuel economy. The 5-speed transmission needs several more gears. The V6 has enough power for decent acceleration, but to get that acceleration you need to use a bootful of throttle and high revs, and that engine just gets noisy and coarse at high revs.

But at the moment there really isn’t much competition for the 4Runner, so Toyota doesn’t have much incentive to replace it. Also, the 4Runner frame is based on the Taco, so I don’t expect a major update to the 4Runner until Toyota does a major update to the Taco.

I don't believe the 5th Gen 4Runner's J150 frame is the same as any model of Tacoma. It is shared by the Land Cruiser Prado and the Lexus GX though.

I know the 4Runner, Prado, and GX share the same frame. It was my impression that their platform is closely related to that of the Taco and FJ Cruiser.
