Working on a 1972 FJ40 for a friend and just installed a new vac advance distributor with Pertronix. Battery is right at 14ish volts, but I’m only getting 3ish volts at the coil (bypassed the ballast resistor).

Obviously I’m losing power from the ignition switch to the coil, but is there anything in the wiring harness I should be looking for? Does a 72’ have the Yazaki wire and if so, should I remove it?

I’ll admit, I’m ignorant when it comes to wiring, but I’m certain I’ll be getting an education trying to figure this out.

Any help to point me in the right direction is appreciated!

Hopefully you can follow a schematic. Getting 12V to the positive coil side is real simple.

Yes, technically there is a Yazaki wire... a butt ton of them, since the harness is made by Yazaki.
