I am mid clutch replacement, my fj40 is a 6/74 so ordered a 3 finger style clutch kit, got in there and it has a 4 speed flywheel, I returned clutch kit and got a centerforce 4speed kit and 8/74-80 throwout bearing. I went to swap the bearing and my rig had the smaller throw out bearing and throwout bearing hub from a 3 finger clutch. I mean the size difference between the 2 bearings is massive. I can't believe it lasted as long as it did before the massive failure it had. I couldn't figure out why the clutch reengaged when I still had the pedal depressed and neither the master or slave failed, the smaller bearing pushed through the diaphragm opening and allowed it to reengage going far too fast for 1st gear with on orion in 4wd low. I'll attach photos of the bearing on the diaphragm and the remainder of the clutch just for laughs, not that it helps anything here
I am now backing out the additional parts I will need to swap everything over to the 4 speed diaphragm clutch correctly, unlike whoever decided to swap to the 4 speed flywheel and wing it with everything else. Let me know if I am missing anything.
4 speed throw out bearing hub/carrier
4 speed clutch release fork
4 speed fork ball
slave cylinder push rod
do you think I can get away with using the slave cylinder that is in the rig with only swapping the push rod? If not do the bolt holes match up for the 8/74-80 slave cylinder?
Thank for any help, I am not new to this, I had the clutch done back in 2008 and only got about 4,000 miles out of the clutch before it exploded, now I know why. My mistake letting a shop do the clutch.
