What does one have to do to make a 2wd SM465 into a trans that will mount to a trans? Found one for a good price. Anyone have a thread on this? Thanks for the help!

My friend has a 465 from a 2wd. He had to change the mainshaft in the tranny. He went through Novak, as they make a conversion kit. He thinks he remembers paying about 700, and that included the shaft, adapter plate (to a dana 20 tcase), bearings, seals and gaskets. They seem to be j**p specific, but maybe you can just buy the shaft and go with another adapter plate.

You can use an adapter from "AA" <www.advanceadapters.com> to mate the 2wd SM465 to a Land Cruiser t-case.

I used a 2wd 465 to a D300 in mine with the A.A. conversion and I think it was less than $500 for the whole package. Works great!

Did the same with my sm420 to dana 300. Came with a spud shaft to go to the 300. all good to go.

If i'm not mistaken the 2wd. version of the sm465 does not have a granny low.The trannys are prone to reverse/first gear wear so when you open it up be prepared to replace those gears. It may not be a problem with the 2wd.version.Just rebuilt one myself not to hard,need a press.
A ebay seller,transparts at the best prices,has all the stuff to rebuild just about anything.I got everything from them excellent service,and shipping.I didn't check to see if they had adaptors. WAY cheaper than other suppliers!
If your running the stock engine I think you need to mod or replace the nose cone on the tranny,I may have the cone.
Also don't forget you may have to mod the tunnel cover,and shifter for clearance.Depending on your rig maybe make an adaptor plate for your 4wd. linkage.

i too have the 2wd version mated to the stock t-case with the long AA adapter .
