I stumbled on this video and it seems the removal and replacement of VVTi cam seals is not too complicated as I initially thought.
See from 5 minute mark.

easy peesy, and you get to replace the valve cover gaskets, tube seals while you're in there. It's do-able, but advantage non-VVTi!

I suspect i need to do this on the passenger side of the motor, I thought i had to pull the head, good news! looks like I can do this as long as the cams only go back in one way!

Interesting Vid. Maybe not difficult but looks like a pita: removing cam covers, pulling the cams..... for this Im happy to have a non-vvt 2UZ

Agree, looks doable, but as a shade-tree who works at a snails pace, this would add a ton of time to the job. My were dry at 95k, I'm hoping they'll still be dry at ~180k. Ain't nobody got time for vvti cam seals.

Resurrecting an old thread, this helped me on my wife’s 2005 Sequoia. I was doing a TB & WP along with the crank seal…..then I noticed the leaking cam shaft seals and thought, oh man. Very tedious but doable.

Thank you
