That assembly looks to be pretty available right now. $166-188 a piece. Not bad.

Not knocking the shop at all. Was just wanting a data point on when the break happened. This job is gonna take me days, whereas a shop is gonna crank it out.

Not going to lie the whole getting the valve spacers into spec is a simple but time consuming process since you basically have to install everything, check it with a feeler gauge, disassemble and replace as needed and then reassemble and check again to verify you got it right. Def don’t recommend doing that at 1am after you are already tired…

This is the best video I've seen as it follows the FSM process to the letter. He even discusses the abovementioned scoring on the cam where the seal rides. Bonus points for the valve adjustment.

It's for a gx470 but it's the same VVTI motor.

Funny I just posted this in another thread from Otramm.

I don’t take it that way, just explaining how it went. I have good long relationships with the shops I use when needed and they all know I’m super anal for a perfect job. Oem, fipg, replace bolts etc. I’m sure that mechanic was not happy. It’s a long job including the seals, by the book. I could probably find my invoice and share if you wanted.

And for that part cost it’s worth it to replace if it you don’t want to go back in. Even camshafts are cheap as long as available.

Otramm video is my favorite for the t belt. Ryan always does a great job demonstrating the process.

Like Rhetoric said, in most of the VVTI cam seal videos the mechanics are not gentle with the cams haha.

The gx470 guy is slow and methodical and that's what I appreciates about him.
