PS - I have some undercoating to touch up the spots that are starting to rust underneath. I plan to take care of it before this winter.

I still haven't done anything yet, but wanted to show you some of the problems I see with tire sizing.

I'm running 32's (235/85/16) on my Chevy now and here is my spare next to the Taco. I think this would be a good size for stock or maybe a small lift.

Just for fun, I rolled a 35" over. The tire is bigger than the wheel well. Going with an aftermarket bumper would fix the problem in the front, but there is a body mount right up against the back of the rear of the front fender. A 35" could fit with lift as long as you never stuffed it. If you want anything bigger than 33x10 (ish) than you absolutely will have to trim if you want to have any upward travel. You definitely need to watch your scrub radius as well.

Here's the rear of the fender (with mudflap)

Body mount

Heres a picture of the UCA and top of spindle that may cause issues as well.

Thanks again for the good info bud, for my future needs I think the 33x10ish will work just fine. On my first gen Taco at full flex my UCA would hit the spring I also popped the passenger axle seal several times wheeling. I installed longer lower balljoints by Downey that helped but on the new platform the longer UCA's seem like a must to resolving some of those gremlins :)

If you're looking for these tires, shop the jeep forums. The 2 sets I picked up for the FJC I got from JKU owners upgrading in size. One set I paid $300 for and the other I paid $100 for the set. Both had less than 5k miles.
Thanks for the headsup Mike :)

Well Well Well.... Guess I'll have to share Truok's progress here! I am part of the BSLCA and owned KRULL the louisiana overland build. He and i just parted ways and now i have started on a new build.
This will be an overland build similar to KRULL but with a couple subtle changes. I learned a lot through my last build and this build will reflect many of those lessons learned. It was my pleasure and Truok came out awesome bud. I love the layout and choice of parts perfect for over landing and I appreciate all the advice I'm gonna follow your lead with "Pepe" my little mule. Borrowed from the movie Romancing the Stone I was 9 but the offroad chase scene captured my full attention and even though Pepe was originally a full size Bronco I think this Taco would make a great Pepe in chasing down some new adventures :) I feel so small an insignificant in it so it won't stay stock very long.

Slow going but Pepe's turning a new corner, I sure appreciate Spencer's help and advice along the way. It not rocket science but he's done two rigs back to back so his insight and experience has been invaluable and he knows what works and what doesn't and we know thats a cost savings right there :)

Where's the finish product?

A friend just bought a 4Runner and did a lift and the same size tires (on 17's) and I love the way it turned out. Can't wait to see yours.

Very nice that looks great. Did he go with the 285's? Very happy with the way it turned out I just finished it Saturday and took it for the alignment. After driving it a good bit Saturday evening and Sunday I'll need to swap the coils to correct the drivers lean and will likely drop it down half an inch in the front. I went the max height at 2.5 on the 5100 with Spencer's 2015 factory coils and its a bit too much tension on those coils. I get vibration through the rack and pinion and the new coil springs seats are tearing so hopefully that will remedy the issues. I ditched the front sway bar. The tires are not overly loud on the road you can have a conversation with no issues and have a good aggressive feel to them. Spencer just got back from Colorado and said they did great in the snow and terrain he encountered. Here's a pic waiting on the alignment Saturday.

Yeah Larry, they are 255/80/17's. He got a good deal on them through discount tire. He has his lift in hand long before he ordered it.

He's the guy that I used to work with that had an H3 and hit the trails with me a few times.

*I don't know what I was thinking on that tire size*

Nice :) I remember you talking about him, glad you talked him into a good vehicle he can use for his offroad adventures. The H2's, and H3's I was on the trail with in the past was usually asking me to tow them out of a hole or predicament :hmm:

The H3 was pretty capable stock, but the traction control always nerfed the driver even when turned off. I believe you had to pull a fuse to really kill it. He was able to fit 35's only with a torsion bar crank. Upgrades were expensive and I think the front diff housing was aluminum and had to be replaced for gearing changes or a locker. The Alpha with the 5.3 seemed to be pretty good. They all seem to be limited to light-duty offroading and the H2's are only good for holding the dirt down.

He picked up the trail version of the 4Runner. He's sad that he only has 33's on it, but it seems to sit higher than the H3 did. You can definitely tell that there's more clearance. He couldn't find something that was body on frame without getting into a full-size truck, so the 4Runner fit the bill. I'm trying to talk him into going to SCC this year and sent him the dates a little while ago. He's going with a Stormtrooper theme. He got a Stormtrooper helmet for his shifter because "it's less creepy than a baby doll head". To each his own I guess.

LOL, never was impressed with the H1 & H3's I was on the trail with they either broke something and bugged out or got tired of being catching straps over obstacles. I think he made a wise choice on the 4-Runner hope he can join you and John on the trip to SCC. I'll miss you guys this year I'm headed to the Overland Expo East in NC this year hopefully to learn a bit and spend a week in the mountains :) I like the stormtrooper theme he's choosing and agree much better than a doll head. He should put a huge stormtrooper head on the hood and pose with Vadar

October 7-9, 2016, for the third annual
Overland Expo EAST, near Asheville, North Carolina.

By light-duty I was referring to gravel roads and hard packed dirt.

I think he will be very happy with the 4Runner. I'm a little jealous because I really like it. I'm working on getting him to SCC although he doesn't want to damage a brand new vehicle. I'll use the pose with Vader as ammunition for that fight.

LOL, that's a true statement on light-duty rated Hummers. You know the park well enough to steer him clear of anything he'll get in trouble on. Had my nephew not been in the pinch I was going get the TT4R. I like both platforms so either would fit my needs but the Taco is tight with the whole family in it and they're nagging about the room on that long drive (spoiled going cross-country in that MegaCab). I didn't need it for the truck aspect having the tow rig for any hauling. We'll see how it goes if it took towing it up there to get the whole family to participate I'll tow it if not the boy and I will have plenty room as usual. Made a mount for the highlift out of some spare junk laying around the shop fits nicely :) Also added a locking tailgate latch and my version of the TRD decals.
