I finally gave up on the stock sending unit and oil pressure gauge as suggested by many on this forum. Have installed an analogue, manual pressure gauge (mounted from the location of the original sending unit). However, now I have a new problem - my oil pressure is way too high. It idles at about 60 p.s.i. but shoots way past 100 p.s.i. above 1000 rpm. I am worried about wearing out bearings and exploding the nylon hose. My mechanic thinks the oil pressure relief valve could be malfunctioning. Not sure how long the pressure has been too high like this ... I hope not very long, but I was running for a while without any oil pressure gauge. Yikes!

Where is the relief valve on a HJ60, 1986 2H engine???

Cheers from B.C.

On the oil pump at the front of the engine. Located on the side the power steering pump is positioned. You can remove the valve without removing the power steering pump. I have replaced mine recently . Best do it asap as if the housing gets worn they are very expensive to replace as the worn piston can score the bore of the housing. In Oz a longer piston after market unit is available to overcome the problem of the scored bore. At operating temperature pressure should be app 85 psi at 3,000 RPM.cheers

I found in a Toyota manual on my local Toy dealer, info about 62 PSI @ 2000 rpm with operative temp.

Also, I need to ask .. you trust in your oil press gauge . ?

The pressure in mine was so great the gauge went right around to the stop pin and bent the needle. :o I understand the housings from Toyota Aust are in the vicinity of $700.00 to $800.00 new, :censor: seems hard to believe. :grinpimp:
