Making this post because I am having trouble reinstalling my 2H engine into my HJ60.

The trouble being mating the engine and transmission (H55F) together. Getting the input shaft splined and into the pilot bearing. Any advice?

My questions:
Would dropping the transmission and mating it outside of the truck be easier in the long run?

Another problem is the engine mounts are getting in the way, should I just ignore the mounts until the engine and transmission are mated, then lift them both together and get the mounts on after?

Anyone in the Ottawa area down to give some assistance or know someone I could contact?

Thank you.

I've always found that its easier to mate the pair outside the vehicle and reinstall. But have also done it the other way, putting the transmission in gear and jacking up one wheel so you can rotate the drift shaft to move the transmission internally can assist getting splines lined up. Dont underestimate how closely you need to have them aligned, the gap around the bellhousing is what I look at and a couple of longs bolt can assist to get the two aligned (just never be tempted to pull the two together with the bolt/nut)

If your transmission has been out for some time make sure the input shaft doesnt have a touch of corrosion on it.. its a very exact fit and the input shaft snout needs to be nice and shiny.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m going to grab some longer bolts to help pull them together but will not force it.

Thoughts on engine mounts during the process? Did you line them up at the same time? Or focus on the mating of the engine and transmission first then worried about the engine mounts?

You can do the engine mounts after the trans and engine are married.

The long bolts are just to help align the two.. 100% dont put a nut on them and use that to close the gap unless its down to like 5mm or something
