Anyone know if these two gaskets are the same or similar?

Yep. Felpro is a great gasket. Avoid the Victor intake/exhaust gasket though.

Mark...

USE FELPRO or oem and have th e manifolds milled, torque to proper specs and forget about it felpro is $18 from advanced auto parts
fel pro part# ms 22813 was ordered for a 83 fj60 made in japan (well whats left) and usa

Felpro is a Graflex gasket... (The one you want)

OEM used to be a junk foil gasket, but may now be the same as current fel pro. I read a post where somebody bought a new I/E gasket from the dealer and it was the same as the FelPro, so old inventory may be used up.

Just curious- i ordered one back in the day from SOR - (before i knew any better )

with that said, anyone know what brand SOR repackages?

SOR might be using Stone gaskets Milo. I ordered the valve regrind gasket set ($80 or so) from them when I did my head. The set included an I/E gasket and the set was produced by Stone. Everything in the kit works great and I have no issues to speak of.

I have used a Toyota gasket just before the stone. They look the same to me. The gasket installed on my rig when I bought it was one of those nasty white ones; I have an extra that came with my header if anyone is interested...

Hey Cliff, did you use the head gasket that was provided in the stone kit?

Short Version - Yes

Long Version - I didn't rebuild the head, but it was cheaper to get get the kit than to purchased the gaskets I needed separately.

I used the following from the kit:

  • Head Gasket
  • Intake/Exhaust Gasket
  • Thermostat Housing Gaskets (Housing to block & upper/lower housing)
  • Rubber Thermostat o-ring
  • Valve Cover Gasket
  • Valve Cover Bolt Seals
Everything is working nicely. I don't have any issues with the head gasket at all and it was easy to orient properly.

Sorry not to turn this post in one about head gaskets; however I've noticed a lot of old head gasket threads where people have issues getting them oriented correctly. I'm not sure if they purchased crappy gaskets or they're just incompetent, but the Stone gasket was very easy to orient to the block. This was the first and only time I've witnessed or performed a head gasket job on a Toyota, so I'm not highly experienced with the 2F either.

The reason I asked was because I was having trouble with the Remflex gasket but after cleaning up the bolts and loosening the manifold off the exhaust flange:whoops:, no more trouble and it's starting to mate to the head real well.

I'll finish torquing it soon and will report back on my luck with the Remflex.

:meh:

do a search on the forum regarding the remflex....most have not had good experiences with them.

Yeah I did research it but I did notice that some admittedly installed them incorrectly(incorrect torque/sequence etc) so we will see jow it goes.

X2 - When installed correctly, Remflex works well... That means following the recommended torque and being careful not to bugger the gasket on installation.

Buggering them is very easy to do because they are so brittle.

To answer the original post...no, they are not the same. ABSOLUTELY.

Best
