Update. the ajusted the timing, it was quite a bit out, it idles and revs nicely now and the coil isnt getting so hot.
however i tried to take it down the road and as soon as its under any load it bogs down and sputters not driveable.
but atleast it idles
Have you replaced your ignition points? My 74 did exactly what you described. My points were out of adjustment and burnt. Very simple fix. Hope you get it figured out.

ive cleaned the points in the distributor cap and rotor, new plugs and i got some spark plug leads today

yeah i just seen that there is no gap at all on mine when i turn the crankshaft
 
Still have bubbles in the carb window?

If you have an ohms meter, there is a test that you can preform that is out lined in the factory service manual that can help understand the condition of the coil.

I would replace the point and condenser.
 
Dude, you come on the forum and ask for advice, then go off and do whatever else except what you were advised, then come back and groan that your junk still won’t run right. Your ignition points are burnt. Buy new ones.
