I bought a FJ60 from a fella recently, It was run low on oil due to some kid at an oil change place not putting enough oil in and the owner not checking after pick-up. Anyway he has $6500 worth or reciepts for the 2F rebuild in the last 20K:crybaby: By the time he checked it, it had like 2qts of oil in it:eek:, started knocking (not siezed). I bought the truck for the custom bumpers, roof rack, 34's, 5" lift, 4:88's and ARB's. But the truck only has 122k orig. and is too nice to part. Anyone ever tried rolling in new main and rod bearings in a motor that was damaged like this. I fugured I would give it a shot before calling the newer 2F a complete loss.

The rod bearings are easy and can be done in an afternoon. The mains look harder, but I've never tried. I know that Romer did back in the day and Poser talks about it. I'd say worth a try.

x2 rods are easy, Mains are a bitch. I would open it up and see how they look most likely you have only 1 bad rod bearing. Even with only 2 qts. the motor can stay pretty lubed, but the oil will get HOT.

Dynosoar:zilla:

Thanks for the input, it is getting new rod bearings tomorrow, I will post what happens, I guess I could do mains and turn the crank if the rod bearings dont fix it, I am wondering what may have happened to the cyl walls? I am going to comp check it also.

Pull the pan before you buy anything.

main bearings

On a F motor you can have damage and not even KNOW IT.....Like Dan said pull the pan then run a compression check.

2x on the above, but in answer to your earilier question the mains all but the rear most can be easily changed by rolling in the bearing a quick and dirty fix, but the best is to do like dan said and find all the trouble and fix it right. Did the above to a pig (FJ55)years ago that had bin rolled and run without oil, ran another 200,000miles before she finally gave me reason to leave her.:wrench::beer:

you will prolly need to have the crank turned...

so you will have to drop the tranny, but all in all if you have the right parts it will go back together just fine.

here are some pics of one i did on a 2F for a guy. having the crank turned was only 98 bux and that was goin .020 over on mains and .010 on rods.

the above motor ran great and had no noises. the whole reason for pulling the crank was because the crank pulley came loose and tore up the crank, once the pan was off I found some other more important things goin on.

lower end gremlins...........

if your rods turned color from light yellow to black, you are fu*ked and all rods have to be changed

Hey, I was "that guy".

These 2F's are tough & should not be counted out right away.

and this is the guy's truck i did it on.

BTW how is she running? did you drive it back to Austin? No problems i would hope. I assume no rods came flying out the side of the block.

It ran awesome when i pulled it out of the garage. Defiantly one of the quietest 2F's that i have ever heard (or not heard) one of the smoothest running as well without a dought. and ive seen, driven, worked on enough of em to see just about everything.
