Hey Mud,

Please check out the video below. This knock gets worse as the engine heats up. I have good oil pressure and the truck seems to be running great other than this.

I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,
Nathan

Have you adjusted the valves?
And have you taken the cover off and ran it like that to see if you can pinpoint the source of the knock?

No I have not done anything with the valves. It sounds like it's coming from the bottom end.

Give it a tune up and check the compression of every cylinder. Even a brand new 2F from the factory would bang like that if the idle was messed up by a low compression cylinder (usually caused by a burnt exhaust valve).
What you're likely hearing is the gears in the tranny banging and possibly crank thrust banging caused by uneven combustion.
I've heard that sound before. Once the valves were fixed, the banging went away.
That may not be what's up with yours, but I'd definitely start there: Full tune up & compression check.

OSS, that's interesting about it possibly being there tranny gears banging. It does the same thing when I depress the clutch, so it's just the uneven engine vibration passing through the bellhousing and then vibrating the tranny enough to make the gears chatter? It actually does seem like it's coming from the transmission area. I hope you're right and it isn't something more serious with the bottom end of the engine.

I bought the engine used with 135k. When it was installed, it had 150-160 across all cylinders. Since then I've only put about 4k on it.

Thanks for all the input. I guess I'll start with a tune-up and valve job. I seriously doubt if the shop who installed the engine ever adjusted the valves to spec, even though I gave them the specs several times.

Mine has the same sound for about 5,000 miles and I assumed it was time to adjust the valves. Hopefully will get round to it this winter

So I take it here this is your truck F? I know your 2F is in rebuild mode at the moment but is this how it sounded before being taken apart?
Yes, video says it’s from 7 months ago.

Ok I'm bringing this thread back. I changed the oil yesterday and now the knock is worse. Oil pressure has always been good and the truck has good power.

I used rotella 15-40 with a Napa gold filter. This is a replacement long block that I've been running for about 4k miles. I'm not sure what oil the shop put in it when they installed the engine. I got the long block from cruiser parts and they said it had 130k on it and compression numbers are 150-160 across all cylinders according to them.

The first video is shortly after startup on a cold morning.

The second video is after the truck came up to Temp.

I put the scope on the fuel pump and it sounds ok. I tested along the block and it sounds ok at the front. I can hear a little knock when I scope the side of the block near the pcv. It is loudest under the truck. Not getting much from the bottom of the oil pan. I do hear some knocking on the bottom of the transmission.

Some made a comment about the transmission gears chattering because of the engine not running properly, but why would that change with engine/oil temp and why would it be louder after an oil change?

Any other thoughts?

I'd start by going down the road that was laid out before you. Tune up, Adjust Valves, Check Compression.
You'll just keep chasing your tail if you don't start somewhere and changing the oil isn't it. Plenty of good

BTW My old 2F had a knock worse than that. I drove the piss out of it, Wheeled it and torqued it out pretty hard a bunch of times
figuring I'd fix it when it gave out. It Never did, I did eventually replace it but that motor is in my basement as a back up.

I had a knock similar to that (only heard at idle) when I bought my truck. The truck had been sitting for several months and I believe it was lifter or push rod knock. Went away on it's own with running the motor.
