My agent over there (who has been very reliable so far) checked it out at the auction and said it was running and driving fine but needed a new edic. My thinking is the auction house put gas in it by mistake after the auction when it was time to move it, and that's the reason it wouldn't start when my agent received it.
.

humm, why would the auction house put ANY fuel in the unit? they have the units trucks from the auction, the auction houses are not responsible to fuel up units.

hummm, it will be interesting when the tear down occures...

this is conjectour on anyones part since it sounds like no one knows who put the gasoline into it, or if the damage was done in Japan or here, whether your contact actually tested the truck (BTW, they are not allowed to "drive" the truck) which leads to think, are these your words or his words. did he actually go to the auction himself and drive this unit? did he get ASNET or IAUC inspector to test the unit? how did he drive the unit if it needed an edic motor? if it really did need an edic motor or was it low oil pressure that shut the engine down? you say you were talking to the mech as the engine died so obviously you can't blame the mech. you don't know who installed the gasoline, it was there when you got the truck. (thing is, the auction house doesn't fuel up vehicles, you are allowed a minimum of fuel when shipping so it "shouldn't" have been your "contact" in Japan. the trucking companies here do not fuel up the units. and it arrived in your sweaty paws with gasoline in it...
which leads to, did it have gas in it when it arrived at the auction house in Japan? doubtful but possible. did you get fuel here in Canada? you say YOU didn't but then you say "No, it was running fine before it was filled with gas. Running rough on the gas/diesel mixture. ". what exactly do you mean by this? it was running fine in Japan? if so then why did the contact say it needed an edic what was his reasoning?
anyway...in the end you are FOB, simple enough. sucks big time.
my try at playing Sherlock is over, post up what you find during the tear down. it will be interesting to all...

<my final guess:
since the truck arrives with dead batteries you ended up paying for a starter and alternator that wasn't needed "my contact ran and drove the unit at auction" (which i am doubtful he actually did)
the truck arrives with gas in it, installed by persons unknown to you...questionable, either it had gas in it before the auction which your inspector would have caught sicne the truck would have run like s***.
or
the truck was never inspected properly before it left Japan and arrived with dead batteries (typical) and finally died an ugly death in the hands of the mech.>

like everyone is saying, sucks to be you. i don't think ANYONE is relishing in your misfortune, i know i am not.
start talking to Greg and Sheldon about the 13BT...it makes a great driving 40 series...

cheers and peace

Tear it down and let's all learn from this one. Which part of the rod is showing itself through the hole? Big end or wrist pin? At what point in the block wall is the hole, close to the pan or farther up?

I agree please post up pic's of stripped down engine as it sound's like you need a serious failure analysis and some objective independant advice on what caused the failure
