I have been searching for a long time for the right wheel and can not seem to find it. Tired split rims 25 years ago until I blew a tube on the freeway. I have had 70 series 16's but a little narrow and sit inboard a bit too much for me. I had some 16" tundra steel spares and liked the look but hated running spacers. Most recently I have been running some Mojave 15 x 8 r15 -19 aluminum rims that are ok but tires are now really old. Given 15s and even 16s seem to be getting rarer and more limited in sizing i am test fitting 17 x 8 r17 e-12 Vision D window steel rims. With a 285/75r17 it all seems to clear and still have a 1/2" to the leaf at lock. The size comes in at 33.8" tall compared to the 32.5 for the 33x10.5. This is not the exact look I was going for but seems like the best option I have found. Thoughts? Anything I am missing?

285/75/17 fit great with no issues, these are on 80 axles

285/75R17 on 17x9 with 4” BS OME suspension. No rubbing. Toyo MT’s measure 34.8” & 11.4”.

Thanks for the votes of confidence, trying to wrap my head around the different look but this seems like the right size, rim, and offset in 2025.

I have a fresh OME heavy setup, my only concern is the potential for rub at maximum flex. The new setup pushes extra width to the inside by .63", I will see what kind of stretch I can test with a floor jack.

@BurntToast are you stock axles with spacers?

To somewhat close this out and keep anyone else from making the same mistake. The Vision wheel fouls on the caliper and I do not want to grind anything. After many hours of internet searching I came across Nomad wheels. They make a 17x8.5 -25 rim. I have had a few emails with them and they are sure they fit although I can not find a single picture on the interweb... They did direct me to the proffitts site where I can see it on an 80 chassis with some 35s. Ordered a set and will post the results.

I get inner wheelhouse rub at full flex in the rear, keeps the dirt out. Doesn’t rub the paint off.

255/80-17 on a my 60.

I’ll always stay tall and skinny. No rub at full flex with 1.5” spacers.

I like the look but still feel like the holy grail is 17" with correct back spacing. The Nomads are -25 or 1" on an 8.5 rim. I am thinking that ends up as 8.5 /2 = 4.25 -1 = 3.25" backspacing. I did not really want to go this much wider but after having looked for years this is the first thing that I can find that works for diameter and no spacers.

Those 70 series wheels looked best IMO

Here are the Nomad Arvo 17 x 8.5 -25 rims. I have stock axles, no spacers and no modificaations to the width. the tires are 285/75 r17 BFG All Terrain KO3. My suspension is a new OME heavy / heavy.

This tire is 33.8" x 11.3" per BFG

I would have preffered a simple steel rim but this is really the only wheel I could find with the extreem by todays standards offset.

I would call it 33.275 with whatever pressure discount tire put in them, have not checked yet but felt soft for an E tire.
