Thanks to the trove of info on this forum, I pulled the trigger on some BFG 285 75 16 TA/KOs.

Mrs was at home and dealt with TireVan (great service, btw) who, predictably, pointed out that these were not the tire size indicated on the door jam sticker, but he installed them nonetheless at our insistence.

I've attached a photo from the Mrs. Looks pretty good. Next project is to pull the running boards.

Car is an 01 stock 100. Will update on MPG, true speed indication etc... but from the looks, I'm pleased with the modification--despite the high cost for 5 tires!UJZ100 285s.JPG

Looks good!

congrats on the tires, I have the same color if you want a better idea of what yours will look like without the running boards

I can read what the post says, thank you. I am new to Toyota's and LC's just bought an 04 and his rims look like mine and I have stock 18's. When did Toyota change the rim size?

not sure exactly... 03-04. There are also some stock 17's out there. Others also run Tundra 18's (I have a set in my garage but running the same oem 16's as pictured above right now).

Class response, mxndrnks.

Looks good, man! After much debate, research etc. myself, I also bought some 285 BFG ATs today. Can't wait for 'em to come in? What tires did you have on yours before? I'm curious if there's any noticeable height difference. Nervous about the MPG diff, too.

You guys get the load range E (10 ply) or D (8 ply)?

I ordered the 'E' off tirerack.com. I wanted 'D', but the price diff was $29/tire due to the fact that the 'Ds' have the raised white lettering - which I was not interested in. Hoping that a 2-ply difference won't make the ride too much stiffer.

wanted to get back to tgstrickland who asked about previous tires (stock michelins, the bland SUV road tire kind). we're running the TA/KOs at atbou 35-40psi and it rides nice, not much more noise (not that i can notice with three kids in the car anyway, but seriously, i'd say little or no more noise). Ride is great--firm, i think the tires corner well if loaded with air, feel firm and sung on road. notice a tad more push needed to stop and i try to be gentler on the startups because there is more rolling resistance. Mrs was willing to accept the tires (it's her car) begrudginly, but when someone stopped her the other day and said "great tires" she agreed it was a good choice. I've had no regrets.

also, i mounted the spare this weekend, the larger size TA KO fit in the spare well piece of cake.
