Looking at getting some tall skinny Nokian LT3 studded snows for my 100 series. Might have a line on a second set of factory wheels to mount them on. Will 235s be too thin to safely run on a 8 inch rim? Obviously, no plans to air down ever as they are strictly winter tires.

I have LT265/75R16 Cooper Discoverer AT3 LTs right now (which are three peak rated) but I've found that their ice and hard packed performance leaves something to be desired

Cheers,
Chris

Friend of mine runs them on his 4 runner with 16's . no issues.

That's really skinny for an 8" wheel and out of spec for most tires. Usually 7-7.5" is the widest you'd want to mount those on.

Have you considered 255 85 16? They fit on stock wheels just fine.

Had a quick chat with a tire shop I trust. The jist is yes they will fit, yes they will be stretched, and No we wouldn't recommend it. So I'm going to go with 265/75R16 (which are the same size as I have now but with a studded dedicated winter tire). In the end there is not a lot of choice in winter tire sizes.
