I will be getting a 1984 4-runner that is complete with a 22re and stick shift and 35's. The body is shot but I already have a 88 ext. cab with a 3.0 that has low compression and the auto tranny just went out.:frown:

My questions are.
1. How hard will it be to put a 22re and stick shift out of a 84 4-runner into my 88 3.0 ext. cab?
2. Would it be better to just change my cab over because the 4-runner is nothing but rust?
3. Do the cab mounts even line up the same?

Keep in mind I want the solid axle to be in which ever truck is decided on.

Thanks for the suggestions!

dont keep the rusty frame!
im guessing its less work to slide that 22r2/w56 into the Pickup than to swap bodies anyway.. Order a SAS kit from trail gear, it comes with steering, springs, shocks, ect everything you need! or just get the spring hanger kit..

remember you gota swap ecu's ect, but the good thing is you got everything in front of you!

It already has a 4in lift on it. I'm still not sure if I'm running the 35's or if I'll go back to 33's. Does anybody know the stock gearing in the 84 4runner with a 22re? And I haven't been able to dig around to much to see how bad the frame really is, I'm guessing bad but I'll see.

Thanks

Hopefully, the frame on the 84 is good. I think it would be much easier to put the newer cab on the 84, then flatbed the rear of the 4runner than transplanting the engine, transmission, and suspension to the 86.

The engine mounts are not in the same place so transplanting the 22R into the 3VZ frame will be problematical.

Scratch the whole idea until I can find another doner. Seems someone can't keep there word for a week and sold it before I was back from a buisnees trip.

Thanks for the info because I'll still need it in the future.

3.4 V-6 out of a Tacoma or 95+ 4runner is the way to go for a 3.0 replacement.

Expensive, though.

Expecto to sspend about $5000. And that's if you can get a GOOD deal on the motor.

Lots of little things that nickel and dime you to death.

I was considering this option for a 3.0 replacement.....

I am looking at other options now..

Yea I looked into 3.4 swap and would love to have it. I probably will have it in the future but not until the wife gets the house exactly the way she wants it. So for now I'm going as cheap as possible.

Cheap would be to buy an engine kit from Engbldr.com and throw a set of bearings, rings, pistons, seals, etc. into the motor.
I'd hone the cylinders as well.

You'd be well under $500.

Won't be the best, but it would last a while till you can do what you want.

But if the auto tranny went bad, best to part the truck out and put the body on the earlier truck's chassis...

I need a crankshaft and a passengers side exhause manifold....

As of right now I'm trying to talk the wife into the engine swap. I f that happens I'll part the truck out and you can have first dibs on those parts.
