22RE hotter plugs?

Howdy! I make a lot of short trips in my 85 p/u. I recently put in Bosch Platnum WR8DP, stock plug listed at Checker. It runs ruf when cold, like a bad choke problem, but it runs great after it warms up. I just pulled & cleaned the plugs. They were damp and sooty, but no crustly gray/white buildup on them. Gap was OK. It's stock/original with 200M miles on it. What's a good plug that is 2 or 3 steps hotter? John
 
Take those POS Bosch plugs out immediately!
Jap engine needs Jap plugs. You need to specify NGK or ND plugs. If your parts house doesn't carry NGK plugs then find one that does! Save the Bosch plugs for your Mercedes.
 
the brand of plug isnt going to do anything,bosch is on of the world's leaders in automotive electronics not to mention one of the first to introduce platinum plugs.the toyota fuel system is in fact copied from bosch lh jetronic. lets not bash bosch here. he should do a tuneup and check over of the system first.it shouldnt be fouling plugs like that regardless of plug brand,especially since it is an injected motor.
 
Bosch is indeed a great company with a long history. True, they were the first to bring platinum plugs to market. It's also true that some motors, for whatever reason don't like them, some Toyota's for one. Bosch plugs foul easier than most, it's a known issue in some motors. I agree with you on the do a tune-up part, ie change the plugs to ones known to work in the motor, ND or NGK and the problem maybe solved.:D
 
Brands aside, platinums work great in engines designed for them.
I speak from many years of experience working in a Honda dealership and also an independent garage. People would come in with engines running terrible and missing right after they spent a lot of money on a tune-up with these state of the art plugs. Some engines flat won't run on platinums!
Bosch gets bashed because they're pushing them everywhere in the media and are the only brand some chain parts stores carry. If Motorcraft or ACDelco were marketing their very fine platinum plugs the way Bosch does, they would have the special kind of brand recognition that warrants bashing!
Brand definitely matters! I wouldn't put an Autolite in my lawnmower.

you mean like ngk does with their irridium plug. i run bosch platinums in everything i own(because i dont like replacing plugs every year and they are the cheapest platinum plug around) including toyotas,in fact my 85 runner has them in and i think there is about 40k on them now and have never had trouble. in an injected motor the fuel management is monitored so closely(even in closed loop)that plug fouling shouldnt be an issue. i could see maybe in a carbed truck.it is true that a platinum will foul easier than a copper because the electrode ismuch smaller but the only trouble i have ever really seen is in race applications were the fuel mixtures are run slightly rich to help with power/ detination problems.platinum plugs will actually run hotter from the get go because of increased energy transfer through platinum vrs. copper.in fact if you run a aftermarket high energy spark system they recommend a platimun plug because a copper wont utilize the effect of the extra intensity.i actually switched from ngks in my snowmobile to champion powersports because they foul out less. so i guess everybody has there own preferance in plugs.like i said brand sprand!!!!
 
NGK BPR5EY stock No. 1233. That is the plug that belongs in there.
the 5 is the heat range. you shouldnt change the heat rating. you need to fix the the problem. start with quaility fuel, timing, tune up, pcv valve....
