Pulling into Prescott Valley I noticed my engine temp start to rise in my 1986 4Runner with a 22re. Shut off the AC and they went down to almost normal. AC temp switch didn't trigger so I am probably alright.

When I stopped I went to spin the fan clutch and the fan is free wheeling. I don't have the time or tools to try and replace the oil in what is likely the original fan clutch. Does anyone have a preferred parts store to order one in the Prescott/Prescott Valley area? Or does anyone have a spare one?

Thanks

Any Prescott/Prescott Valley peeps willing to take delivery if I order one online. I'm working at a cabin at the $ss end of Walker Road (Potato Patch) and can't get deliveries.

Thanks.

send a PM to tls3601, he's in Prescott Valley, with a 40

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't have time to search for a fan clutch. The temps stayed normal for about 30 miles of low speed and into town. I'm going to just find a pair of big boy britches and see how far I make it, without AC.

Anybody about town and see a really sweaty guy in a red 1st gen 4Runner that will be me. Hopefully you'll see me cruising along and not on the side of the road.

Well the 22re prefers a working fan clutch. The infrared thermometer on the block and head give temps of 200-220°.

We'll keep limping. At least it isn't hot.

I was being melodramatic. The metal pipe to the top radiator hose was 186° and the bottom hose 165°. I was fine.

I get to Tucson and drive the last 5 miles with AC. There were no changes in temps. I get home and sun the fan and I get resistance.

Can a fan clutch fail intermittently?
