I don’t know if many people get on this area much, but cooper tires just released a new tire to replace the AT3.

I personally love cooper tires throughout a few different vehicles. STT pros on a first gen 4Runner. STMaxx on an 80 series

Im currently running the AT3 XLT on my wife’s 100 series and they’ve been amazing.

These new Stronghold tires look to be an upgrade on the AT3 XLT except they are 3 peak snow certified. I ordered a set this week for an 80 series I’m working on and they’ll be here Saturday to be installed. Will post pics once they’re mounted.

What size did you go with?

In the pic above they look great - Interested to see them mounted up

Oooo I like that aggressive sidewall much better than the xlt

I think the 80 looks pretty awesome just how it sits 😎
Agree, my wife has the XLT on her 100 series and side by side these look way better. That first pic in the garage is actually after the “lift” is on. It’s just stock height springs and shocks

I'm considering Cooper A/T tires for our GX 460 based on their supposedly being a quiet tire. Thoughts ?

I dont have many miles on these yet because im doing a lot of work on it but the 50 or so miles i did on them they were very quiet, My wifes AT3XLT tires that these stronghold tires replaced in the cooper lineup are also very quiet

I have the Cooper AT3 XLT’s in 315/75/16 on my 80, so far the best AT tire I have owned. Quiet, round, good wet and surprising off-road. If this is their replacement then I’m in if I can ever wear these out.

How are you still liking these? I need some new tires and have pretty limited economical options due to location. The Midas store has a buy 3 get 1 free that would end up about $1400 for a set of these coopers in a 295/70/18. They only have shipments twice a year, so if it's not in the warehouse they won't get them until spring and since they have these but not the AT3 here, that's kinda the only option from them. I had the AT3s on my last 4Runner and was pretty happy with them all around. I prefer a more highway tread, but want either 295/70/18 or 285/75/18 size. So not a lot of options in big tires that are quiet and smooth on the highway.

My concern with the stronghold is mostly the road noise and snow performance. Have you had a chance to see how they are on any snow or ice yet? And how is the road noise? If I'm used to the Michelin Defenders I have now or the AT3s - will I think these are too noisy or are they quiet enough to not be noticeable? I think they're supposed to replace the AT3, but they definitely look a lot more aggressive than the AT3.

Thanks!

Which AT3s do you have? I can’t really hear these in the 80 when I drive it. So far they’ve been great in the rain and really quiet

Running AT3 XLT's on my 80 and Tundra and have always been uber impressed by the mix of capabilities - great for moderate off-roading and EXCELLENT on the highway (smooth, quiet, stay balanced, etc.).

How's the road noise from these at highway speeds? Considering these for our 200 as it's due for a set of rubber - was planning to track down some AT3 XLT's but am inclined to give the new ones a test drive. Liking the more aggressive sidewalls. Limited feedback on the market with these being so new.

Great looking on the 80! And @77mustard40 love your setup as well! I'm on same tire in a 37" flavor and they're perfect.

Thanks for the feedback folks!

So far they are super quiet on the 80 series and you cant hear them at all. About the same loudness as the AT3 XLT on my wifes 100 series. Great road handling. as well. I truly think cooper makes the best AT tire on the market

I'm sold...and entirely agree with you on Cooper putting up a fight for some of the best AT tires on the market. I think their marketing strategies are sub-par at best and don't do a good job at selling their great tires. Also a bit concerned about longer term quality after the Goodyear takeover. M&A's usually only alter course for the higher quality of the two companies being jammed together. 😢

I'll have to look at these. I have the AT3's on my Tundra and quite frankly they scared me in winter. They were
not even remotely confidence inspiring on west coast slushy wet highways. Maybe this tread is better, looks
different

These look very similar tread-wise to their also-new Road & Trail AT, which is the XL-version of the AT3 (these being the E-rated version, I presume).
