As a comparison , my 2015 5.7 with 68k got 18.1 on a round trip from Htfd to boston Logan airport, out and back maybe 5 miles town driving to pick the guy up. 500 extra pounds of toolbox, etc. 210 miles.

Did it the old fashioned way, fill it, drive it, fill it and do the math.

I think those little engines work harder.
@jamesurq ....... this ^^^ i have an 08 DC 5.7 190k and just got back from a trip MD to FL and averaged 18 mpg and thats not be being super easy on it or anything. I think @Weedhopper is onto somthing here. I drove one as a loaner for a week, just always felt that i had to give it more pedal to get it moving. Small engines with small turbos are just going to have to work harder to move a truck of that size. Just my .02

On the facebook groups seems that the general consensus is the new ones are seeing around 17-19 so your truck is in the ballpark

how many miles do you have on it now? I'm wondering if it's going to get better as the miles go up. Just hitting 5k now.
Just hitting 4k. I don't expect the mileages to get better with 35s when I switch out the stock 285s

Just picked up a 23' TRD Pro Sequoia and interestingly enough the economy gauge on the vehicle doesn't bounce around like crazy over the first tank of gas... It's just steadily been climbing up from like 7mpg... I'm now at 12mpg and almost through the first tank. definitely not over impressed coming from a new 22' 460 which was getting 16-22 real world, need the space and towing capacity.

I just drove from Denver to Los Angeles and back in a weekend... 2016 DC, tonneau cover, no notable mods. whole trip averaged 16.7mpg. best tank was Denver to Grand Junction (over 2 mountain passes) I got like 17.5.. but then on the flats it was set the cruise at 80mph... and then down in the 16's. really started to like the big 34 gallon tank! I think good mileage is all about the skinny pedal... the long sustained stretches where you're half in the gas seems to use more than going up and down mountains where you get to coast down the backside..

Has anyone been pulling a 20-26 foot enclosed trailer with both the old and new Tundra to see how they compare? I spend more than half of my miles towing and if there was a big bump there, I'd be inclined to think about switching. Has anyone done any similar towing to compare the new Tundra vs the old one?

I have not ( pulls my 25’ camp trailer very well) but I am betting there are a few whom you are looking for over at www.tundras.com
Thanks. I think the 25' camp trailer is basically the same thing. It's really the wind drag of towing a big box. And most full size box travel trailers would have more drag than an enclosed cargo trailer. I'd love to see a side by side test just to compare mpg. The turbo 6 should pull a lot better as far as power in the mid-range rpms without needing to shift. And it has the 10AT that makes it even better. My 5.7 pulls well enough that I'm not really in need of a new truck, but not as effortlessly as the T6 would. I'm just curious how much efficiency difference there is under heavy loads. Ford's 5.0 gets slightly better mpg towing vs the 3.5 EB, but the EB does quite a bit better unloaded.
