I might be cursed with over sensitive ears in an otherwise quiet cabin, but in my 1400 mile LC I hear an irritating ticking/tappety/maybe exhaust leaky noise from the left side of the dash when the engine is under load (not the directional relay). I will ask the dealer during my next visit, but is this just what they sound like?

Definitely hear it in that clip, I'll have to pay attention to mine when I drive it this weekend and report back. Toyota's are known to be a bit ticky when cold.

Thanks, I've just finished a 550 mile round trip and it has been driving me nuts the whole time.

I hear the exact same noise while accelerating (2010 LX). I've had my mechanic check for any issues with exhaust leak, worn belts, pullies, etc... and found nothing! I've learned to live with it since then, but hopefully you can put an end on this mystery :D

Must be one of those "you can't hear it if your over 50" things. Blinker is all I get. At what time in the video do you hear the sound the most?

I heard it at 0:03-04, 0:16-18, and again at 0:30-32 seconds. From 0:18-26 it's still there but faint. I am legally deaf in my left ear so it should definitely be heard by most haha.

Sounds like normal exhaust header noise to me. I'll be driving mine tomorrow. I've never noticed it but will listen for it. I usually have my radio up though so that might be the fix;)

Drove mine earlier after putting on the spacers to check for play and I was listening intently for noises. I could ever so faintly hear a very slight and I mean very slight tick under acceleration. I am not sure how much your video intensifies the noise due to the sensitivity of the microphone used, but I wouldn't be worried in the slightest in regards to the noise mine was making. The engine wasn't quite at full operating temp and it is 38F outside. A slightly colder Toyota motor is known for a valve like tick.

It's just identifying as a diesel

Thanks for checking...it is minor but the cabin is so quiet and it stands out as it’s only there during moderate+ acceleration. I guess my dirty deeds muffler might help to cover it up once it arrives.

I just got back from a club meet with my new HE. I couldnt hear any type of abnormal noise or ticking sounds.

There's an awful lot of non-Land Cruisers in that Land Cruiser meet up lol. Love the Hi-Ace.

I test drove a 2020 and bought a 2021. I also heard a very subtle ticking-like sound under moderate acceleration with both vehicles. I also have sensitive ears, although my wife would disagree. In light of that, I chalk it up to being normal.

The 3ur is a noisy motor. That’s a fact.

Put a roof rack on it and you will not hear it any more.
