Hey guys, looking at a 2021 200 series with 100,XXX. They want ~69k for it. Price doesn’t seem unreasonable but I wanted to get you guys opinions on these newer LCs with higher miles early. I ideally want this to be my DD for over the next decade.

I’d look for an older model year with fewer miles.

I’d look for an older model year with fewer miles.

Why’s that? A lot of Variables at play

100k miles in 4-5 years is likely majority freeway miles, which is a lot less wear and tear than city driving

A truck with 100k freeway miles is going to have a lot less wear and tear than a truck with 60k or so city miles

Lower miles doesn’t always mean better

When I started looking, I looked at one here on CL with 89k miles, price seemed fair.

Got there and Interior looked like they ran a day care out of it for 10 years, damn near destroyed

My 200 had 200k when I got it, and the interior was more immaculate than even ones I looked at with 50k or so on them

Mine was a long distance commuter for 200k of its life.

Only the drivers seat was ever sat in, etc…

My point, lots of variables here

Are they trying to charge a premium because HE? I'd find a 2018 - 2020 non-HE with 100k or less miles. Should be ~$60k if I know the current market

after mid 2018-2019 MY the trucks are functionally unchanged save for color choices and HE/nonHE. While 100k doesn’t scare me I would look for one with fewer miles especially for that price.

Too much for 100k miles just based on market. That truck should be going for high $50s. I’m assuming it’s a base. If it’s an HE then their asking price is more fair.

$69k would be something in the 70k to 90k mile range imo. Under 50k miles you are still regularly seeing in the $80s for 21s.

All that being said, if you really want the car and it is (I) local to you (makes a difference as you can see the car in person and don’t have to pay to ship) and (II) clean (primarily in terms of interior and underbody rust which you should inspect closely), then go for it. You might be overpaying by $5k-$10k but if it’s what you want and it’s available then that isn’t the end of the world in my view.

Go older and save some money. Anything 16+ is nearly the same truck. Miles are irrelevant if the maintenance was done properly. (Obviously, the newest you can afford is usually worth the additional cost if it's priced reasonably.)

This!

Too many people rant and rave about MILEAGE MILEAGE MILEAGE and ignore many other variables that are considerably more important

I don’t know the market price for these things anymore as my point of reference for what things should cost is still pre-2020 in mindset.

With that said, if you’re neck deep in searching and research you’d know market rate better than most. My smooth brain says it’s overpriced. But if it’s maintained properly and in great shape otherwise (assuming everything else is exactly what you want), see how flexible they are on pricing. Or wait. Either way, you’re in the best model year short range of the 200 imo.

Careful. 19/20/21 saw some slight improvements. i.e. new radiator, leather in steering wheel (though this is a hit/miss sometimes), touch tech in the infotainment, etc.
2020+: new front differential design, is it better? we don't know.

2018+: KDSS bolt change, automatically power-folding outside mirrors, late-2018s have new radiator design, late-2018s have capacitive touch screen on center display (not really noticeable with the 1990s tech), powered lift gate, non-mandatory rear entertainment, newer transmission software (flashable on 2016-2017), and new key (subjective but maybe better?) design.

2016+ LC is already getting you bigger front brakes, 8-speed auto, semi-aniline leather of the LX, and has better buttons arrangement in the center stack than prior years.

I'd just stick with anything 2016 + and use the savings to buy a full leather steering wheel and swap the coolant/radiator/hoses with a fresh set for baselining.

When looking at this without already owning a 2021 LC200 which I purchased new in Nov 2020 for $80,500 + tax I would do this:
- Get a 16+ for the looks, or a 13 to 15 which was the first upgrade of things like headlights, seems older makes less sense for me, unless i would not have the money
- In case of a 2018 or older, get one with less than 100k miles so it has likely not gone through a radiator failure yet (confirm at purchase a new radiator has not been installed yet, or they may have overheated it already and are selling for that reason - Why sell otherwise in my mind?)
- Anything 2019 to 2021 is good because it has the new radiator already. Still confirm upon purchase of an early build 2019 just to be sure.
- Based on above what is in (2013 to 2018 < 100k miles + 2019 to 2021), I would assume I can drive it to 350k miles and calculate Purchase price ($) / (350k minus actual milage). See which one has a good ratio ($/mile), however good condition upon viewing (no major interior damage, little rust on frame and KDSS) and driving (no strange noises, no major pulling, systems like 4lo/4hi and central lock working, everything else which can be switches on and off working...) is a go/no-go. Depending on your annual mileage and remaining between actual and 350k miles you may also discount certain vehicles. At say 20k per year and planned minimum ownership of say 10 years, that means trucks upto 150k miles are game (for the 19 to 21 trucks).

Anyways, have a well thought out logic. I often end up doing some basic calcs and write down criteria in an XLS to make up my mind.

Good luck finding what you want.

P.S. My son in law 2 weeks ago bought a 2020 Lexus certified LX570 with 55k miles offered for $67k at $64k. He is very happy with it. Has the potential to be build like this which has grown on me since i bought my 2021 LC200. I would be happy with either at this point and for an LX570 would use most if not all the makes/products used by Lexus in view of any future sale (short of the super charger and probably buy blue or grey or black so no need for a wrap). For my taste the LX570 2015 and older has an interior with wood style I really do not like. Cannot argue about taste. Many enthusiasts here with 2015 and older LX570 and seemed to be very pleased with it.
