On Tacoma forum, some/few 2020 Tacomas are having issues with CC: 2020 tacoma Pro Crawl control not working

Up to 2020, CC works as advertised. But some 2020 Tacomas have issue with throttle when using CC. It won’t go up incline or even a chock. Basically, CC just won’t apply any throttle. And shuts down after a while.

And Toyota says that it is working as advertised.

You can see the fail here:

Go to 5 minute mark.

Just wondering if 2020 LC have this issue too?

it's thinking...

Although I am not in the market, the Tundra TRD Pro seems pretty sweet for ~30K less than a land cruiser... Fuggedabout crawl, just lock the diff.

I had my 2020 out the other day and used the Crawl Control briefly. It seemed to function just like it did in my 2017 Tacoma. That being said I am not a big fan, it makes a ton of noise and I prefer just to use the ATrac system and control the throttle myself.

And yet the cruiser will still go far more places off road.

Does Tundra TRD Pro come with rear locker?? I could not find it listed on Toyota.com.

does not look like it does. I just checked the toyota website, it mentions an automatic LSD for the differential (I am assuming its rear) with a part time 4 wheel drive system. does look like it has ATRAC but not CRAWL.

What really gets to me is this - how does a rig that costs 30K less comes with carplay and android but the LC does not??!!! Admittedly, that will never be a deal breaker for me but come on toyota!!! And if my experience with Jaguar is concerned, its not too hard to retrofit!! they had to order a part (hardware) which they needed to install and then code the car accordingly. Seriously, if Jag can do it, I am sure the whiz kids at toyota can. Unless, they don't want to do it for some asinine reason.

@Eric Sarjeant ... question ... since you guys are essentially gurus of electrical/electronic mods on the LC, would this be a retrofit option with parts / coding coming from the compatible tundra?? that would essentially keep everything "OEM".

On that video, they engaged a rear locker (look at minute 6:03). I didn't look up the spec sheets.

I think you may want to read up and discover the mission of the LC. It’s purpose has never been to be on the bleeding edge of whiz-bang comfort and convenience features.

that video was for the Tacoma no?? apparently the Tacoma TRD PRO does have a rear locker. Tundra TRD pro does not. I don't know if the auto-LSD has a full lock-up feature built in, but there is no button that engages the locker is my understanding.

You're right, that's a Tacoma. Sorry.

disregarding the sarcasm in your post, I understand the stated purpose of the LC and I am in the market for one and nothing else will do. However, not intending to be on the bleeding edge of tech is one thing and actively staying behind times is something else altogether. and really, carplay/android auto is hardly considered cutting edge or luxury these days. these are simple convenience features. there was another thread on here where we were having a discussion on how that should not be a deal breaker and it is not for me. However, do I have this gripe... absolutely. will it keep me from getting one - absolutely not!!!

as far as comfort, lets be honest with ourselves here and not just fanboys/girls - US spec LC over its successive generations has always leaned more towards upping the ante on the luxury side than the offroading side. Thats why we have heated/cooled/vented seats, leather interior, carpets instead of on-board air tanks/compressors and portal axles with factory installed adjustable coil overs. everything can be done aftermarket, but as it comes from the factory - toyota's intent for the US market has been a luxury offroader, in that order. Fortunately, it is still fantastic offroad for the few that actually use it that way.

AUTO-LSD = more aggressive traction control.

You mean TACOMA??
You are correct. I was wrong. I thought the video was a Tundra, but after you guys pointed it out, I rewatched and saw it was a taco. Mea culpa.

@Eric Sarjeant

Have any of your 2020 Taco customers noticed this weird CRAWL behavior? Literally, it seems like Toyota neutered the crap out of it so that it is just a hill descent system, not an off-road tool. So far in the long thread, a member is going to have a regional person look at it...while others just get the usual...”working as intended.”

And of course, i am wondering if this neutered CRAWL has managed to spread to other Toyota vehicles, such as LC200?

CarPlay: has it occurred to you that no one wants to hear it? We get it. 80k vehicle without it, cue the Hindenburg “oh the humanity”. At this point if I were a toyota engineer I’d be giggling over how much this trolls people.

To even start to compare toyota to Jaguar is flat out stupid. In one hand we have the most reliable car manufacturer in history, in the other we have... Jaguar. Toyota earned that reputation by being conservative with their engineering. They are aware customers want CarPlay but don’t add it because they can’t justify the cost. They sell 3k 200s in America per year and that might go up by what.. 10% with CarPlay?

Besides, having CarPlay would clearly make crawl control work on those 2020 tacos...

tldr: Toyota knows that the Land Cruiser needs CarPlay and it is coming, but not probably not in 2021.

Toyota was late to the Android Auto / Apple CarPlay party. Toyota didn't want Google and Apple to be able suck up that valuable data about drivers. Toyota thought that they could compete with Entune -- yes, they were delusional.

A few years ago, Toyota realized that they were losing sales because of the lack of Android Auto and CarPlay, so they started adding it. But it required new head units, so they have been rolling it out, model by model, across their fleet for the last 2-3 years. It doesn't surprise me that the Land Cruiser, being low volume and overdue for replacement, is near or at the end of the list. The current rumor is that it still won't get CarPlay for 2021 -- so likely not until we get a 300 Series. That is a disappointment to me, but I understand Toyota's reasoning -- the volume of 200 Series left to be built just doesn't justify the engineering effort.
