2016, rear ended :(

The LC got rear ended exiting America's largest retailer......yes yes, I know.

I don't know where I read it, but can I insist that Toyota do the repairs? Both I and the other driver have USAA, who are usually good about this sort of thing. Given that it's the LC, and we have the pearl white color, I'd prefer Toyota do the work.

Pics will be posted soon, it's not terrible but I will need a new bumper.

Don’t have USAA. But you should be able to go where you want. How bad is the damage? Go to dealer to get a estimate. You can always choose to cash out then buy a aftermarket steel/aluminum bumper.

Yeah, that might be the route we go. However, it's the wife's truck and she's just annoyed as we detailed the crap out of it this morning.....

I'd go ARB non swingout. It's no bulkier than stock and likely even a little slimmer, and there is nothing to complicate getting into the hatch like a swingout bumper. Bonus is the cost will likely be the same as just putting stock back on - call Slee for details.

Must be something in the water this month. Friend of ours just ordered a bar for his daughter's white 80 to replace a 15 year old Kaymar following a rear-ender. Box truck lost...

Whatever the brand, a bar in back is always a good idea.

Sorry about the mess - whenever I see a rear bumper without a matching front bumper it really looks like the easy way out to fix crash damage. I have thought about it a few times on other vehicles but really feel if you do one, you should do both.

Or people are just smart to build, replace, modify, etc. for their needs instead of going for the stereotypical me too!!! overland build.

The usual routine is your insurance company will send an adjuster to your location and do an estimate for $x.
Then you can either accept $x and repair it yourself or get someone to put on an ARB bumper for $y and pay or pocket the extra.
or you can say I'm going to have the dealer repair it .. and not accept the $x and the insurance will deal with the dealer on the actual cost paid out.
If you take it to the dealer or body shop you can get a loaner, since it's the other guys fault.
If you accept the $x and go get an ARB you may or may not get a rental .. maybe if you ask for x days they will give you the $$ for it.

You do have your choice of who repairs he vehicle. If you bring it to a shop or a dealer then you usually do not get involve in the cost., just the quality.

The fight is not about who repairs it, but if they will use genuine OEM or cheaper aftermarket parts. I know that with State Farm, last I checked if the vehicle is less than 6 years old, they insist on OEM parts. I believe USAA is pretty good to work with. Good luck.

USAA just told me 2 yrs is the cut-off for OEM. I spoke w/ her supervisor, explained the accident was not my fault, the cop issued the other driver a ticket and stated on paper she was at fault. I have an inspection tomorrow for repair cost/quote...we shall see.
