The recycled air button works in the sense that the light would go on if pressed but outside air is still coming in. So it’s stuck on open all the time.

1. What could be the issue?
2. Would this be covered by CPO warranty?

Haven’t been to the dealer in a while. Do I need appointments for it?

@04UZJ100 is being sarcastic as there’s many reports of dealers not knowing how to handle the recirculation flap when changing the cabin filter and breaking it. Read that thread linked by @elcie200 and you should be able to see if that’s your issue.

If you do want to take it to the dealer, yes, I would assume as with any service you would need an appointment.

As a quick summary for you, many dealer service departments break the mechanism controlling the recirc/fresh flap inside the blower housing because untrained techs don’t follow directions to put the system into recirc when they change the cabin filter. Forcing the flap open to access the filter breaks the linkage. It’s a very expensive and difficult repair, requiring removal of the dash and an entire new blower housing. A couple of members on here have had it covered under warranty, but most have not because warranty does not cover negligent breakage of parts. Many of us have repaired the damage on our own, but it’s still quite a task.

That sucks. Looks like I’ll live with it for a while

you can force it to use inside/recirculating mode for the mean time if that’s what you’re after. just read the thread linked a few posts up.

Man I wish there was a YouTube video for this
Hah! Be careful what you wish for. One of the more popular DIY auto repair/maintenance sites has a YouTube on changing the cabin filter that is completely wrong. It shows a guy forcing the door flap up while the system is fresh mode and that’s what breaks the mechanism. The correct way to change the filter is in your owners manual if you want to check things out yourself.

That is.. unfortunate. I assume people are lighting the guy up in the comments section?

Watch out for those free videos....

Mine will be going into the shop for this as soon as I schedule it. Will see if the CPO covers it, I believe it will. If not, I'll be opening a case up. It's a huge safety issue when you cant defrost your windows without opening one up. Mine wont stay on fresh air, it closes, but won't open back up. Only works one direction.

Anyone I can DM to talk me through manually keeping it closed?

If you are going to attempt to have warranty cover the repair, don’t do anything until go through that quest. If you mess with it, they can claim it’s your fault. In the meantime, you’ll get the best defrost action from having the recirc/fresh door closed——-in the fresh air position. In other words, in the position where you can‘t see the filter. At least that’s the case in Michigan.
