I personally prefer the '13-15 MY LCs and LXs price being irrelevant, however the 16+ did get a few things updated (for better or for worse) such as brakes and joystick nav in the case of LX. The styling is subjective, and since you'll be swapping out the stock bumper anyways, won't matter much.

I have been trying to make the same decision as OP but at least in my area the 2016+ LX's are going for 10-15K more than the 2013-15 models. My main dislike with the 13-15's is the gray plastic they used in the dash and center console area just looks and feels so cheap compared to the interior of 16+'s. At this point I'm just stalking all of them in my area online waiting to see if the prices start to fall.

I test drove a 2014 white LX with black interior at Oxnard Lexus a week ago, it had 82K miles and they had just dropped the price from $49,500 to $40,775. The exterior was a 10/10, the interior was a 9.5/10. It was gorgeous, and drove flawlessly. It really looked a felt new. I was smitten. But now is not the time for me to buy, and it was still about $10K north of what I can afford. So, some prices are starting to fall. I'd just say set up your alerts on Cars.com, etc., be patient and also be ready to strike. The one I test drove last week sold the day after I test drove it.
If you're keeping it stock, I prefer the look of the 16+ exterior. If you're using it as a wheeler, that's an awful lot of plastic to hack up.
I prefer the updated interior of the 16+ by a wide margin.
I've never driven an 8-speed 200, but the gear ratios sound better to me on paper.
So yeah, if you're looking for something to beat up on the trails, get the earlier model. If you're looking for something to keep stockish, get the later model. That's my $.02
