as soon as you cross the river you'll see the day-use area on the left. pull in there, it's where the trail head is located. follow the trail three miles to the end and that's where we'll be camped.

the day use area has some bathrooms and running water iirc. other than that, there are no facilities where we'll be staying. not sure about cell coverage, it's in a canyon and off the beaten path......and that's why we're going there, right?!

So, I'm a little confused. The directions above say

Directions:

From SoCal, or West coast, it looks like you take CA-4 E then take
Boards Crossing Road/Forest Road 5N75 for 1.5mi
Keep left at Forest Road 5N02 for 3.6mi
After you go over the bridge make a left on to the dirt road
Then it's ~3 miles to the camp site

But the google maps shows the destination immediately across the river. Is there 3 more miles after that? Is that were the more difficult section of driving is?

PEter

I looked it up on Google Earth. You can see the camp site from space. The directions are dead on accurate. "After you go over the bridge", the bridge is the river crossing. Make a left after you cross the river into the day use area. That is where the "difficult" part or trail starts. I doubt there will be cell coverage there as there is very little in Dorrington at the top of the ridge.

Close. I believe its the last spot that you can make out the trail next to the river near some falls/or rocks on the river.

according to a friend of mine, the ramsey fire did not touch the trail. it consumed less than 1500 acres and is a couple of miles east of sourgrass. so no worries there.

but the campfire situation is a no-go. NO OPEN FIRES!!!!! so bring a tent heater and a camp stove. luckily we're at a lower elevation this year so it won't get nearly as cold as in the meadow up at deer valley.

CAUTION:STUPID QUESTION ALERT: So Georg when you say NO open fires, I imagine that includes such things as the Little Red Campfire (propane)? I don't want to lug it up if I can't use it.

As far as I know Propane is fine..(you can turn it off) Charcoal BBqs would be a no-no..

Yes, propane grilles, etc are fine.

You goin?

Probably. You?

My roll cage is overdue from the painter. I'll know tomorrow if it's going to be painted or not. If not I will have some motivation to paint instead of go wheeling and I have an invite to another camping event that is closer.

Yo Georg,

I won't be making it this year. Can you save a large tee for me. You can mail it to me when I order some stuff from you. Or when we meet next, which ever comes first.

And....Happy Birthday
