Is there some magical way the display can be set to return to a blank screen vs. having to go through the menu and touch screen ? ed

Do you mean just turn the screen off? If so, just go here and post # 3: GX 460 Manuals - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/gx-460-manuals.1129713/
Then just look for your year and country. Make note that you're looking for U.S. manuals.
Also, if you have the time and have a Lexus dealer local, just go in there and ask!
When I first purchased mine, I was stuck on how to do something with my audio/nav screen. I went into my local Lexus dealer asked for some help and within a couple of minutes a data tech specialist came out, sat in the car with me and walked me through!
Easy peasy!! It was a lot faster than wading through a bunch of manuals.

Sorry for asking, thought someone would have a quick answer. I've tried the 3 inch thick stack of manuals in the glove box and got frustrated searching. Nearest Lexus dealer is 2.5 hour drive.

I am not aware of a way other than the touchscreen option to quickly turn the display off.
