We bought our Land Cruiser in 2011 sightly used (8xxx kms). Ever since it has been running great. However, two days ago, I went out and everything was fine. One the way back, the car wouldn't start and the 60th Anniversary LED front light strip wouldn't turn off even with the car off. I tried to jump start it and still nothing. It couldn't even get the ignition to the "on" position (where the car's systems turn on but the engine remains off).

We towed it to the Toyota dealership and they had a look. Turns out the battery cell had gone bad and wouldn't hold a charge. They replaced the battery and now everything is fine (the sound of the start-up motor is also much better).

However, today I noticed something about the A/C. It doesn't seem to be cooling as well as before and even at the max fan speed setting, it doesn't seem to be blowing air as fast as before. I don't know if I am just imagining things or if the A/C fan really did slow-down. Is this even possible that the A/C fan slows-down on the same speed setting? What about the fact that it doesn't seem to be cooling as well as before either? The A/C was fine before sending the car in for the repair job.

As an '11 model i'm assuming it still has a warranty so just call the dealer and have them fix it. It could be low gas/ gas leak or the a problem with the ac compressor. Actually the first thing should be to pull the air filter out from the glove box and clean / air hose it and see if there's any difference, it accumulates a lot of dust and sand and usually after clearing it there is a noticeable improvement in the ac.

Thanks for the reply.

But what about the A/C fan speed? Is it actually possible for it to slow-down at all speed settings or am I just imagining things? I doesn't seem to be blowing the same amount of air as previously at all speed settings.

By the way, the car was just serviced about 400 kms ago.

Im guessing that if the filter is blocked it would restrict the airflow coming out. It happened to me once the ac wasn't cooling enough and less air coming out. I asked them to service the ac but when they checked the air filter they just cleaned it and said no need for it to be serviced

Okay, I think I feel stupid now. I just went for my first drive today and saw that the A/C circulation button was set to "fresh air". I know this setting reduces the "air pressure" from the fan. I set it back to "circulate" and now everything is back to normal.

Thanks for all your help/replies though!

Sorta off topic - but relates to our area. I have started to install a 2nd DENSO fan infront of the radiator next to the original one DENSO fan.

I admit the Toyota's tend not to have a air flow problem as much as my Fords - but because alot of my TLC's spend most of their time at Idle sitting in parking lots or oil fields running waiting on people, the 2nd fan as increased the cooling efficiency.

And with our summers in the 45+c (that's 115f) and even more on the tarmac every little bit helps.

Interesting xkennex, I have never seen a TLC with dual fan setup here in the kingdom, but yes - plenty of american SUV's get it done due to overheat/cooling issues. Do you have a pic of this 2nd TLC Denso Fan setup?

I'd be interested in seeing some pictures as well. Also do you install transmission oil coolers? I've noticed the transmission can heat up pretty quickly not sure if the protection plates are building up more heat underside. But I think as a safety measure it would be a good idea to get an extra fan and oil cooler

Nope refuse to send photos - your just going to have to drive the 20 miles down to RAK and come see in person :p j/k

I'll see if I can find pictures of the last one I made - it was pretty simple - cut a frame out of 2mm steel and bent the sides over to give it strength and wired it up via a relay to accessories power so it comes on when the TLC is started.

Hi Ken,
Does the aux fan fits into the area crossed by the orange arrows? This is a V6-2010, so not sure if V8 has the same space available?!? do you have the denso fan part # handy? Thanks !

That is the location I install the 2nd fan. I just remove the bolt that is holding the horn on the passenger side. Bolt my bracket there and then tap 2 more holes into the lower support.

The part number you can get off of toyodiy.com but when I went into my local dealer they couldnt find that part number so I just gave them the orginal vin and ordered a 2nd fan.

Next time around I would go with an after market fan (the OEM wa close to $250). You can get a SPALL fan for 1/2 that price.
