Hey Mud – I have been meaning to get on here and get some documentation on how my Sequoia build is going but ya’ll know how life goes. Hoping this thread can be inspirational to folks who are looking to push their big bodied rigs a little further than soccer practice and the mall.

Background: I came up from Toyota Pickups and 2g 4runners into the full-size segment a few years ago. Cut my teeth on torsion sprung IFS stuff and kinda just evolved into more updated rigs and technology. I started with a 1st gen Sequoia that I picked up before covid for a good price after I kept striking out on 3/4th gen 4 runners (the market in Alaska is notoriously tight + Alaska/Toyota tax). It was a good rig, super roomy and comfortable. I had a travel trailer at the time and I knew I wanted a little bit more pep to tow it around. I came across the 2G and the timing was right along with the price so I picked it up after it passed Cam seal inspection and Timing chain guide checks.

Stock form aesthetic was atrocious, quite bad. It was totally stock besides some leather seat covers for the front two rows and HID’s in the Low/Highs/Fog lights. As soon as I felt the 5.7 powerband working with the 6 speed I knew I was on the right path and I wasn’t going to look back. I really do love the manual shift selection option as well. Also it is cool that we have the option for AWD on our T cases when compared with the Tundras boxes.

Got suspension and tires en-route and then tore out the interior the following spring to make it a 3 seater. Used it hard all last year and now getting ready to go into the second summer season with it. Still waiting for the full Tandem Offroad skid plate package to ship out, also have the Hewitt Tech SAIS bypass kit and Snorkel Upgrade head on order ATM.

Some pictures of the rear box set up. Was a little challenging because after the seats were all out the floor went through like three different heights from the back to the front. Finished product has been great - couldn't imagine it without all this storage now.

As cousin Eddie would say "It's a Beauty Clark" she sure is Purdy.

Thanks for posting some pics and specs. I have the same color Sequoia, stock aside from Bilstein 5100's though. I have been threatening to try my 315/70's on black Icons on there off the Tundra, after seeing your truck I have to do it now.

Thanks for all the kind words folks.

Got my mega warrior mounted up for the summer season this week, and the camping kit dialed in. Plastidipped the awning and the front emblem just for kicks. Should be seeing my skid package from Tandem Offroad at the end of the month, will be looking forward to throwing those underneath (especially the fuel skid) for some peace of mind.

I just bought a 1g Sequoia to use as a daily so I am looking forward to keeping this thing in the shed and ready for adventures. Some updated pictures from today:

Throw them underneath and let us see them! 315/70/18 is a really cool tire size, especially for guys running OEM rims since the measured width on the tire is usually 9”. Glad to hear there is another purple tree out there!

That 1st gen will serve you well. Easier to work on, ultra reliable, better fuel economy...just lacks the sex appeal and the working hatch handle, Lol. Loved mine, it's what drove me to buy another.

Some stuff from this summer. Running a Darche swag for the season. That combined with the ARB awning has been exceptional. Got the tandem skids installed as well, a good kit but took awhile to get to me. I think it was just a single run, anyone looking for skids may be better off going with RCI.

Picked up some new tires for the daily, Yoko Ats in 265/70/17. Got some bronze wheels coming for that thing as well, I think it will look good on the blue. Still under the knife for a new TB/WP, radiator, thermostat, LBJs and full fluids.

Been a solid summer. Only issue was a starter going out after 850 miles of hard water crossings and dirt roads.

Your passenger looks way more calm than mine during a water crossing. Doesn't matter whether it is 4" deep or 24" deep, my wife does not like driving through water.

Also, looks like some awesome trips!

Got the ARB slapped on there. Been dreaming of picking one up for years and it finally came together for me. 5.29s, rear Auburn and front Eaton locker going in at the end of the month. LFD crossbars on order to run - not a fan of the bulky roof racks. Should hold the swag, maxtrax and shovel nicely.

285/75/18 cooper stronghold at’s on order, looking forward to ditching the spacers and getting skinny for the summer season. I figure losing the MT traction can be made up with the lockers, and I’m looking forward to dropping around 20 pounds a corner.

Niiiice. Looks great. I’ve been wanting to get rid of these alloys for some Tundra 18-hole steelies (in silver). But hard to come by with center caps. Local junkyard has some but they want $150 each.

That ARB is looking good! Looking at your Sequoia I'm starting to think I need a snorkel, But....then again, I know that I'm not fording rivers with a small lift and 35's. There is too much electrical to worry about if water gets in the cab. I took it through some stuff that was at least 12-14" in spots during hunting season, that's likely as deep as I plan to take mine.

Yeah if it doesn’t make sense, I wouldn’t sweat it. The intake is already pretty high on these even without tires and lift. We get into stuff 100’s miles from home and I just wanted that extra insurance policy. From what I’ve seen the door seals are pretty good at keeping out water, but I’m definitely not parking in a river (ideally..)

I’ve seen a few center caps over the years, definitely cleans up the look. And as far as 150… that’s not too bad! Keep searching and you’ll find the right set. I love the silver look - classic Safari style!
