Weird electrical issues have just started popping up in my 2011 Landcruiser, and I am looking for insight.

  • Check tire pressure system light came on
  • Key fob won't work even after battery change
  • Heated seat light is on, but both knobs for heated seats are in the "off" position
I cannot get the vehicle to start even with putting the key fob on the ignition button and pressing the brake.

Any help would be very appreciated as this is my daily driver!

When you say "battery change" are you talking about the fob battery or vehicle battery? I would check codes first, but sounds like you possibly need a new vehicle battery, or might have a water intrusion issue. Check the threads on the windshield cowl leak and inspect the passenger footwell trim and underneath the glove box for signs of moisture.

There's also a chance these issues are independent of one another. The tire pressure light could be a need for new tire pressure sensors, and the seat heater lights might be remedied with new switches (I had the symptoms you describe for each of those issues). But the key fob issue suggests there could be something else going on. Do you have a second fob, and does it exhibit the same symptoms?

Thanks for the response. "Battery change" was on the key fob. I will check on the battery, try to find the leaky windshield threads, plugs and fuses.

If all those problems started about the same time, they are almost certainly from corroded connectors due to water damage. Here's one thread on windshields, cowls, and sunroof drains. Find and fix the leak and start taking apart connectors everywhere you find dampness inside. Hopefully they just need a good cleaning and some dielectric grease.

This seems like what it is. Anyone know where the Body Control Module is on the 200 series?

That is your problem. Has been discussed in-depth in this section, you have plenty of reading to do.

The good news is it appears at least the male side pins are in pretty good shape. In extreme cases they break right off greatly increasing the work to repair things. Can’t see the female side though.

You need to get to the bottom of the water ingress though. Most likely clogged sunroof drains if it’s on both sides. The other common source is at the cowl but that’s usually passenger side only.

I can’t get the security system to recognize the key, so I can’t start the car and open the sunroof. I gotta get this thing to crank first. Any ideas on what to target for the key to start working? I cleaned the plugs that I saw were corroded and reinstalled- but still won’t start. The seat heater light did go off though.

You might need to try some contact cleaner as well. Possibly carefully depinning individually to get a better look at the female ones. Until you are sure all those male and female connectors are good it’s not worth spending time working on other things.

That said if it’s not raining where you are the sunroof can wait. If so you can look at other ways to seal the interface.. 2” vinyl tape is a good option.
